A common occurrence with these VHS tapes, especially when it's a tape from way back in the 1980's. The tape leader will often detach from the reel, but it's an easy fix with a little bit of clear Scotch tape. Like it never even happened!

If you've ever noticed a playback quality difference between one of your home video tapes compared to another, the recording mode that was used when the tape was originally filmed is likely the reason why. Another cause for reduced playback quality is if a tape is a copy of another tape. Quality is reduced when footage from one tape is copied to another tape.

Here, we have a VHS tape that a big digitizing company wouldn't transfer when it was sent off to them. I don't see why not because it's playing perfectly fine for me. 🤷‍♂️ Beware of them because this could happen to you, too!

I'm in search of at least one more Super VHS/S-VHS VCR to use for digitizing. If anyone following the page happens to have one, I'm willing to buy it. If it's a Super VHS VCR, you will see this logo on the front of the unit. It may also say "Super VHS" on the tape door. Thanks!

It's always easy to tell when you're watching footage that was likely filmed with a VHS camcorder from the 1980's because they have this green hue/glow in the picture. I see this a lot with tapes from the 80's or early 90's.

I've noticed that a lot of people who contact me about digitizing their tapes, no longer have a way of reviewing the tapes at home. Either they no longer own the equipment to do so, or their equipment barely works now or doesn't work at all anymore. If you're in this situation, I can check any tapes you're unsure about and report back to you what I find! I do this quite often for people. A lot of the time, unlabeled tapes end up being cable television recordings or blanks that were never recorded on, but there can still be important footage on them. If you have tapes you're uncertain about, it's not a problem at all for me to check them for you!

I recently ordered the equipment needed to have a second VCR or camcorder running so that I can digitize 2 tapes simultaneously to speed up turnaround time! This will help things move faster with large batches of tapes, or if I'm taking on tapes from two different people at the same time.
