A heads-up for anyone who has 8mm film reels with rubber bands around them that are years or even decades old. They eventually rot and can melt onto your film. As you can see here, there's a small piece of green rubber band stuck to this reel and some of the residue from it also leeched onto the film. I highly advise removing any rubber bands from your reels, especially in the case of long-term storage. Go with an alternative instead, like string or thread, but don't tie it tightly around the film.

I recently found these 3 laptops for sale on Marketplace for only $30! The white Apple laptop had a broken screen (which I knew before buying), but the other 2 laptops are in perfect working condition. One being from 2007 and the other from 2011, they're outdated, but still usable in 2026. After upgrading them both to the free operating system called MX Linux, they're now able to do basic work and browse the internet once again!

If you happen to have an outdated laptop or a laptop that performs poorly and you want to try to give it new life for basic use, I may be able to help you. Feel free to message me about it!

Another rant and awareness post about most of the big digitizing companies that are out there that may be advertising to you! Here, you see that they failed to cut out the VCR blue screen at the beginning of this DVD which they transferred a VHS tape to, and they also didn't disable their VCR's "VIDEO CALIBRATION" message that shows up while the footage is playing. They could have, but they didn't. I always make sure these things are cut out of your footage when I digitize your tapes!

Here's a device sold at Walmart that I can recommend for playing digitized footage from a USB flash drive. It supports USB flash drives and external hard drives with storage space up to 4 TB! As I tell everyone, most modern smart TV's should have the ability to play MP4 video files from a USB flash drive by plugging the flash drive into the rear of the TV, but if your TV is older and doesn't have the capability to play the footage I transfer for you, this Panasonic DMP-BD90P-K Blu-Ray/DVD player is another option!

8mm film reels are my favorite form of analog media to digitize! I clean every reel from beginning to end before digitizing in order to remove as much dust and fibers as possible to achieve a clearer end result. Send me a message if you have any 8mm or Super8 memories you'd like transferred!
