KODE, Action 12 News

July 2018 - Joplin News 1st (#joplinnewsfirst) joins www.fourstateshomepage.com as digital reporter.

KODE-TV, virtual channel 12 (UHF digital channel 43), is an ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Joplin, Missouri, United States and also serving Pittsburg, Kansas. The station is owned by Mission Broadcasting; Nexstar Media Group, which owns NBC affiliate KSNF (channel 16, also licensed to Joplin), operates KODE-TV under joint sales and shared services agreements. The two stations share studios and transmitter facilities at 1502 South Cleveland Avenue in Joplin.

The station began broadcasting on September 26, 1954 as KSWM-TV (for SouthWestern Missouri) and was a primary CBS affiliate, but shared ABC with then-NBC affiliate KOAM-TV. It was locally founded by Austin Harrison who also owned radio station KODE AM 1230 (now KZYM). It originally operated from studios and transmitter located on West 13th Street in Joplin. Harrison sold the station to Friendly Broadcasting, owners of WSTV (now WTOV-TV) in Steubenville, Ohio in 1956. In 1957, the call letters were changed to the current KODE-TV.

Friendly then sold both KODE and WRGP (now WRCB) in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Massachusetts-based United Printers & Publishers in 1961. Gilmore Broadcasting of Kalamazoo, Michigan bought the KODE stations in 1962.

KODE became a sole ABC affiliate on January 1, 1968, and three days later KUHI-TV (now NBC-affiliated KSNF) started and took over the CBS affiliation.

Please do something about getting your picture and sound together. It was so bad a 5 o'clock we couldn't watch the news. It is a black screen most of the time so watched another channel. Isn't happening except KODE which we like best. Please do something about the problem.
What is wrong with your channel?

Information about Miami, OK Utility Bills. There is going to be a Special Meeting TODAY, it would be Great if a reporter could be there to record it.
Good evening to all and I hope everyone is having a awesome Friday. I'm reaching out on behalf of my nonprofit the Forgotten 22, we started the mission of helping veterans and operating a nonprofit right as all the covid stuff hit and it really took the wind out of our sails. We are currently ramping things back up and starting work on building out retreat here in Wichita. For those of you who don't know, the retreat I speak of is a collaboration between a couple different organizations. We have partnered with Boulder Crest to be the provider of their Post Traumatic Growth program or PATHH program. We will be building a facility and providing this training for veterans and first responder dealing with PTSD and suicidal thoughts. The program is a well developed program that focusses on the warrior as a whole, Mind,Body, and Soul. We will teach you how to take the anger, the depression, and the pain and use it as fuel to propel you to new heights it is only when we are at peace with our demons that we can really live our lives. As I said we took a big hit because of the COVID so we are needing help to ramp back up. Yes we need donations but we are also looking for team members that will bring the passion and fire needed to push this program along. We need more board members with a wider set of skills, our board is made up of some amazing people that have fought to make this a thing but there is always room for more people with different talent. So if you are interested in helping out the organization or becoming part of it please reach out to me and we can talk about the future of the organization. Do not forget about our fundraiser just a week away, there will be some good music and some great people. Admission is free for all service members holding an ID Active, Reserves, Guard, Retirees everyone else is $10 per person for anyone 13 and over. All donations will go to getting our programs started. https://www.facebook.com/events/639581559995773/
Why? Can Joplin not get a decent weather person... the forecasts are NEVER even close... 16 is the worst, 12 is never close and 7 shows 0 percent chance of rain on the daily but shows 10 to 20 percent on the hourly EVERY day, ( I guess just to cover their butts... lol ) We had 80 to 100 % chance of rain on Sunday in Bronaugh and never got a drop... Which is normal for the Joplin/Pittsburg area channels forecasts. Could one of you PLEASE hire a decent weather person?
