Happy Birthday Mary Harrison McKee!

Mary Harrison McKee was the daughter of the twenty-third President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. Born in 1858 in Indiana, she married a lawyer in 1884. Mary served as the hostess of the White House during her father's presidency, her mother was ill with turbuclious and unable to manage the First Lady duties, this caused an issue with the "second Lady" and others who wanted the post. Mary died in 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Happy Birthday Lou! I know extraordinarly little about Lou Hoover - I know there was a lot of post-Hoover cleanup for the Roosevelts... looking forward to learning more! I did just learn that Lou was a leader and that rules year after year!

She married Richard Nixon in 1940, and they had two daughters together. She was known for her quiet and reserved demeanor and for her efforts to promote education and improve the lives of disadvantaged Americans. She passed away on June 22, 1993, at the age of 81.

She was also known for her philanthropy and charitable work. She passed away on March 30, 1853, at the age of 55.

Jane Means Appleton Pierce was the wife of President Franklin Pierce and served as the First Lady of the United States from 1853 to 1857. She was born on March 12, 1806, in Hampton, New Hampshire. She married Franklin Pierce in 1834, and they had three children together - all three sadly died in childhood.

Jane hated Washington DC and left her husband there to work while she lived elsewhere. Eventually she convinced him to leave politics. She passed away on December 2, 1863, at the age of 57.

Bess Truman was the wife of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States, serving as First Lady from 1945 to 1953. Born Elizabeth Virginia Wallace on February 13, 1885, in Independence, Missouri, she was known for her straightforward and practical nature. She preferred to maintain a low profile and focused on supporting her husband and managing the White House. Bess passed away on October 18, 1982.

Angelica Singleton Van Buren was born on February 13, 1818, in Wedgefield, South Carolina. She was the daughter-in-law of the 8th US President Martin Van Buren, and served as the White House hostess for her father-in-law, as Martin Van Buren was a widower during his presidency. She was 20 years old when she assumed the role of ""First Lady"". She was the first woman to serve as White House hostess without being married to the President.

Angelica died on December 29, 1877, in New York City, New York. She lived to the age of 59.
