Not gonna lie… there was definitely a time when someone called Alaskan Dames a “thrift store” and I’d quietly cringe a little 😅

But honestly? The secondhand world has changed a LOT over the last 30 years.

Traditional thrift stores usually sell donated items.
Consignment stores sell items for local people and pay them when those items sell.

At Dames, every item has a story:
💛 Someone cleaned out their closet
💛 Someone else found something they LOVE
💛 A local consignor gets paid
💛 And the money stays right here in Juneau

We carefully curate what comes into the store, process every item individually, style displays, photograph thousands of pieces, upload inventory online, and work really hard to make shopping secondhand feel inspiring instead of overwhelming.

So yes… we may use “thrift” as a keyword sometimes because that’s how people search now 😅

But what we’ve really built over the years is a community-centered consignment boutique built on:
✨ sustainability
✨ local women supporting women
✨ REALLY good closets
✨ and fashion you don’t have to pay full retail for

And honestly?
We think that’s pretty cool 💛
