🚨 Driver Survivor Re-Airing Today at 4PM 🚨

With much of Juneau’s New Year’s Eve celebrations canceled due to our recent snowapocalypse ❄️, many events are now happening this weekend instead.

As plans get rescheduled, we want to take a moment to remind everyone how important it is to plan a safe ride home.

Today at 4PM, we’re re-airing Driver Survivor. A powerful, eye-opening program focused on the real and lasting impacts of impaired driving. It’s not about shock value; it’s about awareness, responsibility, and keeping our community safe.

Please tune in, share with friends and family, and as you head out this weekend..have a plan, call a ride, and get home safely. ❤️

HEAVY SNOW POTENTIAL RETURNING FOR MONDAY...

While periodic snow showers are falling across portions of the panhandle Friday and "clear and cold" conditions are expected
through this weekend, forecasters are monitoring the increasing potential for heavy snow Monday into Tuesday.

There is moderate confidence in the timing of the snow to move in from the west Monday morning, spreading inland through the day. Confidence is increasing on a period of heavy snowfall rates with at least 6 inches of accumulation and some potential for locations to see greater than 12 inches.

The US National Weather Service Juneau Alaska forecasts over 20 inches of snow and rain this weekend and into early next week. Here are a few safety tips to consider when the heavy snow hits:

When possible, limit driving. If you’re on the road, exercise caution and visit 511.alaska.gov to check the conditions of your route.

Call Juneau Police Department’s non-emergency line at (907) 586-0600 if you encounter fallen trees, flooding, slick intersections, or other dangerous road conditions.

Check your neighborhood storm drains for snow and ice. While CBJ Streets crews are working to clear the storm drains, your support helps prevent minor floods caused by drain blockages.

Exercise caution when clearing roofs of snow and ice. Engineering firm RESPEC recommends clearing roofs when they accumulate between 2 and 3 feet of snow, depending on the age of your home.

Clear boats of snow and ice to prevent damage to your vessel and neighboring vessels.
