HTC Shareholders Huna Totem Corporation was formed under the terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA)

Huna Totem Corporation was formed under the terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) enacted by Congress on December 18, 1971. ANCSA paved the way for the formation of 12 Alaska Native regional corporations and approximately 200 village corporations spread throughout 12 regions in Alaska. Huna Totem Corporation was incorporated on November 9, 1973. Under ANCSA, it received a cash d

istribution and 23,042.85 acres of land; the final land transfer occurred in July 2013. Since its incorporation, Huna Totem Corporation has become one of the most successful village corporations in Alaska. Through strong leadership, a mindful board, and supportive shareholders, Huna Totem Corporation has made great strides in both protecting shareholder land in perpetuity and becoming a sustainable corporation for future generations. Huna Totem Corporation is currently owned by over 1,650 shareholders with Indigenous ties to the Village of Hoonah in Southeast Alaska.

We’ve received many calls about Descendant Enrollment, so we wanted to share answers to some of the most common questions:

Q: Who should I list as the Original Shareholder when applying for Descendant Stock?
A: When applying online at MyHunaTotem.com, start by checking your closest lineal relative (for example, your mother or father) to see if they are an Original Shareholder, and work your way up if needed.

Q - I don’t have a state ID. Can I use my Tlingit & Haida Tribal ID Card?
A – Yes, your Tlingit & Haida Tribal ID Card is acceptable.

Q – Can “leftouts” also apply for Descendant Stock?
A – No. The resolution passed in June 2025 only applies to Descendants who meet the following criteria:
• Born after December 18, 1971
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Show direct lineage to an Original Shareholder
• Not hold Descendant Stock at another village corporation

Q – Is Descendant Stock eligible for Settlement Trust Distributions?
A – No. Based on the Trust Policy, Descendant Stock is not eligible for distributions from the Shareholders Settlement Trust. Any change would need to be considered at the next 10-year review. The last review was in 2019, and the next is scheduled for 2029. The inclusion of Descendant Stock could be considered at that time.
