Na'ohulelua Historical Garden is looking for some Azolla plant, to be specific, Azolla caroliniana also known as the mosquito fern. We purchased some from Amazon but it didn't do well in the shipping process ...
Azolla is rich in protein, essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Studies describe feeding Azolla to dairy cattle, pigs, ducks, and chickens, with reported increases in milk production, weight of broiler chickens and egg production of layers, as compared to conventional feed. One FAO study describes how Azolla integrates into a tropical biomass agricultural system, reducing the need for food supplements. It's also a nitrogen fixer and excellent fertilizer!
Please DM if you have some we can purchase on Hawaii Island.
Mahalo!
