ABA Term of the Week: Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement, an ABA strategy, promotes the occurrence of desired behaviors by providing a positive consequence after the behavior occurs. For instance, when a learner uses their words to ask for help, the clinician implements positive reinforcement, such as saying “good job” and providing assistance. This is an example of social positive reinforcement and natural reinforcement. At Windward Synergy, positive reinforcement is at the forefront of our minds and implemented daily within our interactions with our learners to promote independence, confidence, and generalization of their skills.
