It’s pretty special when a professional relationship lasts for years and continues to feel like a good fit. 💜

I’ve been a Hi Rasmus Ambassador for several years, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to continue that relationship. I’ve enjoyed watching the platform evolve, sharing my perspective as a BCBA and business owner, and connecting with a team that cares about the work happening behind the scenes.

Looking forward to continuing the conversation, sharing what I learn, and seeing what’s ahead!

Progress looks different for every child.

At Windward Synergy Center, we believe meaningful progress starts with understanding what matters to each child and family.

We use data to help us see what is working, understand where change is happening, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.

But progress isn't just a number.

It's a new skill that makes everyday life a little easier.
A goal that becomes more independent.
A family feeling more confident.
A child being able to participate in something that matters to them.

We measure what matters because meaningful progress deserves to be seen, understood, and celebrated.

This is what Expect Results means at Windward Synergy Center.

Together We Accomplish More.

ABA Term of the Week: Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement, an ABA strategy, promotes the occurrence of desired behaviors by providing a positive consequence after the behavior occurs. For instance, when a learner uses their words to ask for help, the clinician implements positive reinforcement, such as saying “good job” and providing assistance. This is an example of social positive reinforcement and natural reinforcement. At Windward Synergy, positive reinforcement is at the forefront of our minds and implemented daily within our interactions with our learners to promote independence, confidence, and generalization of their skills.

ABA Term of the Week: Task Analysis

Task Analysis is a teaching strategy that breaks down a task into smaller steps. For example, if a learner is having a hard time washing their hands, we can utilize task analysis to break down the steps and offer help when needed. There are different ways to implement the assistance with the steps, such as prompting at the beginning and having the child independently finish the rest of the task, often called forward-chaining. We can also prompt the steps during the final steps of the task, called backward-chaining. Task analysis helps develop independence and offers support when tasks may feel overwhelming.

ABA Term of the Week: Natural Environment Teaching (NET) ✨

At Windward Synergy, we utilize natural environment teaching (NET) for the majority of our sessions. This approach facilitates the acquisition of skills in a natural setting. NET looks like the learner and the clinician engaging in play with the motivation of the learner’s choosing. Within this play together, the clinician can teach different skills such as identifying shapes or colors, or encouraging problem-solving skills, like building a tower after it’s knocked over. NET also teaches social skills where a learner can invite a peer to play a game and practice communication skills if they do not want to join in an activity. Our goal with using NET is to help our learners achieve generalization with their skills so that they may effectively use them at home, at school, and in their community.

ABA Term of the Week: Coping Strategies ✨

Coping strategies are implemented daily within our center with the goal of our learners gaining independence in emotional self-regulation. We help them identify their emotions and provide options for the learner to de-escalate. We model with the learner to take deep breaths, drink water, or take a break. Coping strategies are a useful tool for our learners to feel safe, grow their independence, and enhance their learning experience.
