Responding to Upton Avenue near Renewal Court on Monday around 4 p.m., Battle Creek Fire Department said they found an abandoned commercial building emitting heavy plumes of smoke.

Around 2:30 a.m., a car crashed into a building occupied by Highpoint Community Bank, owned by real estate developer Treystar, after Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers observed the car speeding through downtown at an estimated speed of 100 mph, according to KDPS Fire Marshal Scott Brooks.

At this time Brooks said officers are not releasing information on how many people were taken to the hospital, though they did say multiple people were in the car. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
