Hey, it's Nick and Daybreak Tattoo is looking for a tattooer to join the party!
(I want to preface this by saying this is NOT an apprenticeship opportunity.)
When I started the shop in 2016, I had a kiddo on the way, had left my previous shop without much of a plan, and generally duct-taped a shop together to have a place to tattoo. In January of 2020, the shop moved into a bigger space, completely remodeled, with space for more artists, and then we were shut down in March for COVID. However, we keep rolling!
The shop has changed so much since 2016, but I can say that the people I am lucky enough to work alongside with are some of the most sincere tattooers that genuinely care about giving their clients their best and I would love to add someone else that I can say the same about. We've had artists leave to do bigger and better things, but not one of them has left without being a better artist and tattooer than when they started. This is due to their own hard work, but I think being in the right environment does help.
We are not the norm. The shop is employee based which means ALL supplies are provided (aside from machines, artist chair), we offer health insurance (with contribution), your taxes are automatically deducted so no tax season panic, and you have a nice big booth with work surface, client bed, storage, and 3 walls to hang art and make the booth yours. Our sliding pay scale means if you are putting in the work, more is going into your pocket. Ash, our shop manager, is there to help free you up to focus on doing your best work.
If the employee route doesn't appeal to you, I am definitely open to discussing non-employee options as well and can help you get set up as a properly independent artist.
While I am the shop owner, I am also a tattooer of 17 years. I'm right there with you, trying to do my best work as well and am always available for feedback, critique, and advice. I am human and flawed, but I try my best to take care of everyone under my roof.
The most important things I want to find in a potential artist is integrity, a desire to grow, and the kind of attitude that feeds into a positive shop atmosphere. I'd rather help the right person improve than have a rock star with an ego.
It'd be great to bring someone on that does styles of work that would be unique to the shop, especially a black and grey realism artist. This is optional, however.
So that is my pitch! If this sounds like the kind of place you'd like to rest your machine at, please shoot me an email at [email protected] with an intro of who you are what you bring to the table, examples of your work, and what you are looking for from a shop. If there is something above you aren't sure about, feel free to ask!
Thanks for making it through this novella and I look forward to hearing from some cool people. If there is an artist you think might be interested, feel free to share this with them!
