When building the corn for The Farmer’s Daughter, we needed two versions: small-scale for the miniature farm set, constructed with just enough detail to read convincingly at a distance, and a larger scale for the full-size sets, where the texture and layering of each leaf and husk had to feel genuinely real 🌽
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Both were made from deadstock silk–textile waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill, given a second life as something alive, growing, golden in the light of a stop-motion frame.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It turned out to be one of those happy discoveries where the eco-conscious choice and the most beautiful choice were exactly the same thing!

Words do not do justice to exactly what unfolded where the jungle meets the sea in Nosara, Costa Rica over a week long immersion guided by and his incredible team.

To say I am changed is an understatement.

I had the immense honor to have been witness to the accelerated growth of 120 souls experiencing the gift of what it means to be human and how our relationship with Nature and each other affects the health of all of us.

I spoke with the trees. I watched the plants dance. I felt the oneness of the ocean as I floated in it for hours. I breathed in the horizon. And I saw the fear that all of us cling to so tightly in order to survive in a world that has forgotten that we are Nature too.

Most importantly, I realized that we have been waiting for permission to reconnect to an inherent part of ourselves. I didn’t know I could talk to the trees until someone invited me to listen. I didn’t know what I was holding onto until someone finally invited me to disconnect from story and instead to just feel. And I didn’t see the deep beauty in what was underneath my fears until it was mirrored by my fellow humans.

I listened and I bore witness to people facing their shadows and, in the stillness, they were able to find their own way through the darkness. Each of us became our own hero on a heroes journey that only we could face. And in completing that character arc within ourselves, we were able to step outside of the stories holding us back.

As a storyteller this was incredibly foreign to confront the stories I told myself. Because there is beauty in making meaning. But there is also danger in clinging so tightly to story that we stop paying attention to the feeling behind it. Because this is where disease begins.

We are a collective immersed in story. From the narratives we spin to make sense of our experiences to the ones we’re told on a daily basis through the news, the government, advertisements, and the digital programming available at our fingertips.

How do we discern truth in all the stories we’re told? We reconnect. To each other, to the planet, to ourselves.
