🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Kankakee County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports of a scam targeting family members of individuals recently incarcerated at the Jerome Combs Detention Center.

Scammers are reportedly contacting family members while posing as representatives of the Sheriff's Office. These individuals falsely claim that immediate payment is required to place an ankle monitor on the incarcerated person in order to secure their release.

Please be advised:

The release or remand of an inmate is determined solely through the court system—not by the Sheriff’s Office or any other law enforcement agency.

The Kankakee County Sheriff's Office does NOT request or accept payment over the phone for any reason.



If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent our office, do not provide any personal or financial information. Hang up immediately and report the call to KanComm Dispatch at 815-933-3324.

Help us spread the word to prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
