Memorial Day Weekend Sunday at Lake of the Ozarks is basically America’s annual celebration of pretending Monday doesn’t exist.

Every Midwest dad (like me) within 200 miles is standing on a condo balcony staring at the lake like he personally discovered water.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everybody. Stay safe out there.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND IN THE MIDWEST.

The official kickoff to:
sunburns, Busch Light, bad decisions, and grown men saying “watch this” right before a minor emergency.

By Saturday afternoon:
some dude named Kevin is gonna be shirtless, standing next to a smoker he barely knows how to use, explaining the “science of brisket” like he works for NASA.

Lake of the Ozarks is about to become America’s largest floating collection of:

- tribal tattoos
- gas station sunglasses
- upside down visors
- and pontoon captains with the confidence of an airline pilot and the balance of a baby deer.

Also…nothing, and I mean NOTHING, builds character like jumping into a Midwest pool in May because everybody’s pretending:
“Once you get in, it’s fine.”

No it ain’t, Randy. Your turtle is hiding near your spinal cord.

And somewhere this weekend there’s gonna be one guy getting way too emotional after 7 beers talking about his high school football career from 1994.

God bless America.

Take a break from work this weekend. Laugh hard. Eat too much. Hydrate occasionally.

And please…if your bluetooth speaker starts sounding like a Missouri State Fair after midnight, it’s time to go home.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everybody.

For today’s daily dose of, “what’s fueling Ronnie today”, my buddy .bagz will appreciate this…

One quote that’s stuck with me over the years is from Zig Ziglar:

“You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Some of the best things that have happened in my career didn’t come from chasing titles, attention, or trying to “win.”

They came from:

helping people grow

helping brands connect

helping businesses tell their story

helping create momentum when things felt stuck

Whether it was building sponsor relationships with Heartland Waterfowl, business development for C3, working in radio, growing sales opportunities, or helping businesses strengthen their presence, the best results usually came from focusing on how to bring value first.

Funny enough, when you genuinely try to help people succeed, opportunities tend to show up naturally over time.

I still believe that.

And honestly, as I look toward what’s next professionally, that’s exactly the kind of environment I want to continue being part of: good people building meaningful things together.

One of the biggest shifts in my career happened when I finally understood this:

“Facts tell. Stories sell.”

I could give people numbers.
Ratings.
Data.
Demographics.
Marketing decks.

And those things matter.

But the moment things really started changing for me in sales and branding was when I learned how to connect those facts to a STORY people could actually feel.

That became huge for me while building sponsor relationships with Heartland Waterfowl and later helping grow Commercial Cleaning Concepts nationally in the hospitality space.

Because at the end of the day, people don’t buy facts.

They buy:

* belief
* emotion
* trust
* vision
* connection

Funny enough, the best stories usually came from asking better questions and actually listening to the answers.

That’s where the real connection happens.

Still one of the most valuable lessons I’ve ever learned.

Years ago when I was doing afternoons at KOYT “Coyote Country” in Tucson, my Program Director, Jeff Baird gave me four words that stuck with me ever since:

Fun.
Unique.
Bold.
Today.

At the time, it was about radio.

Make the show FUN.
Don’t just try to be different… be UNIQUE.
Don’t play scared. Be BOLD.
And always focus on TODAY. Be relevant.

Funny enough, the older I get, the more I realize those four words apply to just about everything.

Business.
Leadership.
Content.
Relationships.
Life.

Some of the best opportunities I’ve ever had came from simply being willing to:

- take the shot

- try something creative

- trust my instincts

- and not overthink every possible outcome (Which, to be fair… I still occasionally do.)

I think a lot of people are capable of more than they realize.

Sometimes they just need permission to stop playing defense all the time.

Anyway, those four words have stuck with me for over 20 years now.

Fun. Unique. Bold. Today.

The older I get, the more I realize accomplishments aren’t always the awards, titles, or numbers people see publicly.

Sometimes the biggest accomplishments are:

* building trust over time
* adapting when industries change
* staying relevant
* continuing to evolve
* and still showing up with energy and passion decades later.

I’ve now spent over 30 years working in environments built around communication, storytelling, branding, audience engagement, leadership, sales, and live performance.

Radio.
Television.
Content creation.
Marketing.
Podcasting.
Brand partnerships.
Live events.

And through every chapter, one thing has remained true:

People connect with authenticity.

Not perfection.
Not hype.
Not forced branding.

Just real people who care deeply about what they do and who they do it for.

I’m proud of the experiences I’ve had, the relationships I’ve built, and the opportunities I’ve been trusted with over the years.

But I’m just as excited about what’s ahead.

Because I still believe the best work happens when experienced people continue learning, evolving, and collaborating with others who are passionate about building something meaningful.

Grateful for the journey.

And genuinely excited for what’s next.

Recently, I revisited a DISC assessment I took a while back, and honestly…it explained a lot about who I’ve been my entire career.

It talked about being relationship-driven, energized by people, communication, creativity, momentum, and helping bring ideas to life.

And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that’s exactly what I’ve loved most over the last 30+ years.

Not just radio.
Not just television.
Not just content.

People.

The conversations.
The relationships.
The trust that gets built over time.

I’ve always believed opportunities come from genuinely connecting with others and showing up consistently for people when it matters most.

That mindset has opened a lot of doors in my life, and I’m grateful for every person who’s been part of that journey.

Right now, I’m in a season where I’m excited about what’s ahead and open to new opportunities, partnerships, and conversations.

And if there’s one thing I know for sure…

Relationships will always matter more than resumes.

I’ve been doing a little reflecting lately.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to be part of some really unique experiences: radio, television, business development, working with great people, and being in environments where performance actually matters.

And if there’s one thing I’ve learned through all of it…

It’s that I genuinely enjoy connecting with people and helping bring ideas to life.

Whether that’s through content, conversation, or simply being someone others can rely on to show up and deliver.

Right now, I’m in a season where I’m open to what’s next.

Not forcing anything. Just being intentional and trusting the right opportunities usually come from the right relationships.

If you’re working on something, building something, or know someone who is, and you think there could be a fit, I’d be glad to connect.
