Today will be my last newscast with Charles Christian, and tomorrow… my last day at News-Press.
Before anything else, I have to start with gratitude. Steve Booher, Jess Dehaven and Gary Smith thank you for trusting me to anchor primetime news in this community. You welcomed me in not just as a journalist, but as part of a mission that truly cares about St. Joseph
Over my time here, I’ve stood on city sidewalks in the middle of breaking news, covered politics that shape our future, and sat down with neighbors who have shared their most personal stories. From foster care reform to the resilience of small businesses after hardship.
I’ve been there in early mornings at the COC breakfasts, late nights waiting for legislative votes, and even on Main Street talking to St. Joseph residents about issues that matter most to them.
I’ve had the privilege of telling the stories of our veterans, Cheerleaders, lawmakers, students, artists, greiving moms, the inventor of the trapper keeper. Heck. Even the Hardy Brothers and everyday people who do extraordinary things.
Each story wasn’t just an assignment…it really was a chance for me to connect, listen, and to make sure voices were heard.
Charles, working alongside you has been such a joy. Your professionalism, HUMOR, and warmth made every show better and I can truly count on you to be there for me!!
To the entire News-Press NOW team, thank you for challenging and supporting me. We have producers, designers, TDs and digital creators and reporters who are AMAZING!!!
To the community of St. Joseph: thank you for letting me into your homes and hearts. It’s been my honor to be your anchor. While my path is taking me forward to Kansas City, I will always carry St. Joseph with me. ALWAYS!!
With gratitude and love,
Kirsten Stokes
