Despite science and animal suffering, people still breed dogs and cats for their own pleasure whether it be looks or the massive amount of money they make. This is why itβs vital to adopt or find an ethical breeder who refuses to breed pets with these conditions.
As of January 1, 2026, Scottish Fold and Sphynx cats will no longer be bred, bought, or sold in parts of Northern Europe.
Why?
Scottish Folds suffer from a genetic mutation that causes debilitating arthritis.
Sphynx cats have the shortest lifespan of any pedigree breed and extremely high rates of heart disease.
No matter how you weigh in on the decision- it will likely have effects on how these breeds are seen world-wide, and also opens up questions about so many other breeds- bulldogs, Persian cats, frenchies, and more!
What do you think about the decision and the possible implications for band in the U.S.?
