I got the RentACoop 10 lb Feeder & Waterer Set and I genuinely LOVE these!

A few things that immediately sold me:

• The raised legs keep the feed and water up off the ground and away from dirt, mice, bedding, and all the other stuff chickens somehow manage to throw everywhere.

• THE WATERER HAS A HOLE IN THE TOP FOR HOSE FILLING. Such a simple thing, but if you’re filling waterers every day, you know how exciting this is.

• The design helps keep birds from perching on top, which means way less p**p to deal with around their food and water.

• The feeder helps prevent excessive sorting and scratching through feed, which means less feed getting wasted.

• AND I CAN KEEP THEM OUTSIDE! They’re actually designed to handle being outdoors, which is huge for how I keep my birds.

Sometimes farm products just make chores a little easier, and these are definitely one of those products.

I genuinely love them and will absolutely be adding more around the farm.

Before you read this, I want you to know I typed it angrily. I typed it thinking about all the women and girls I know. My sisters, my friends, every woman in my life.

Today I read a post saying women should be “held accountable for their actions” in reference to the Cornell 7 situation.

So let’s talk about violence against women.

• Nearly 1 in 2 women have experienced contact sexual violence in their lifetime.
• More than 1 in 5 have experienced completed or attempted r**e.
• Nearly 1 in 2 (47.6%) have experienced unwanted sexual contact.
• More than 1 in 3 (34%) have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner.

And on college campuses:

• 25.9% of undergraduate women — more than 1 in 4 — reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact involving physical force or inability to consent since entering college.
• 59.2% reported experiencing sexually harassing behavior.

If you want to put those numbers into perspective, picture the young women you know.

Your daughters. Your sisters. Your friends. Your nieces. Your classmates.

Women are already taught to constantly think about their own safety. What they wear. How much they drink. Where they park. Whether they walk alone. Who they trust. Whether they leave their drink unattended.

Maybe when violence happens, the accountability conversation should focus a little more on the person who chose to commit the violence.

A woman can make a bad decision.

That decision still does not make her responsible for someone else’s decision to assault her.

We are huge fans of Nutrena Feed ! We’re currently feeding Nutrena to the goats, horses, and all of our birds.

Our birds have been on the NatureWise line for years, and right now everyone is eating NatureWise Feather Fixer while I’m conditioning birds for show season. I like a feed that’s a little higher in fat, especially when I’m working on feather condition, and I’m also a big fan of non-textured feeds because birds are SO bad about sorting through their food.

I knew food insecurity was a problem in our community, but I don’t think I realized just how many of our neighbors are struggling.

Right now, 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 kids in our community are food insecure. Harvesters is seeing record numbers of people seeking food assistance across the 27 counties they serve.

Through more than 600 food pantries, distributions, kitchens, schools, hospitals and other community partners, Harvesters helps provide more than 52 MILLION meals every year.

And during Hunger Action Month, there are a lot of ways we can help — donating food or money, volunteering, hosting a food drive, or simply using our voices to bring attention to hunger in our communities.

Even $1 donated can help provide 2 meals.

Hunger doesn’t always look the way we think it does. It can be our neighbors, coworkers, friends and families. If you’re in a position to help, even a little bit matters.
