A civic engagement initiative tied to America’s upcoming 250th celebration is encouraging Clay County residents to become more involved in their communities through activities focused on government, history and public service.
The challenge, created by Clay County volunteers with support from Missouri Humanities, encourages residents to complete community-focused tasks tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary on July 4.

Young children in Excelsior Springs will now have the opportunity to learn golf in an environment designed to remove pressure, frustration and intimidation that often comes with trying the sport for the first time.
The Excelsior Springs Golf Course recently introduced Weelinks, a free five-hole junior golf course open Sundays from 2 to 7 p.m. for children ages eight and under.

Excelsior Springs will soon prohibit the sale of certain concentrated kratom-derived products while adding new restrictions on kratom sales within the city.
The ordinance, approved unanimously during a recent Excelsior Springs City Council meeting, restricts kratom sales to individuals 21 and older while prohibiting the sale of certain concentrated kratom-derived products commonly referred to as 7-OH.

The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives in support of its “Vietnam Veteran Oral History Project.” MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages and has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971. The project is being conducted in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit, “Not Forgotten: Local Stories of the Vietnam War Era,” which is open now through the end of November 2027 at the museum, 101 East Broadway Avenue, in historic downtown Excelsior Springs.
