One day at a time.... tomorrow is radio day for me and I would be most appreciative and honored if you would join me and my guests... I welcome Alejandra Quintana (aka Adelina) as my Guest DJ and artist Leah Sproul who will sing for us live and give us the 411 on her new project Leah Sproul feat. Rancho Deluxe.

Adelina has put together an epic playlist that includes everything from Nirvana to Johnny Cash to Foo Fighters to Eydie Gorme to Freddy Fender. I'll be spinning music from some of the local songwriters that will be joining me on air soon (Caleb Nelsen and Mike Westbrook) as well as some favorites from James McMurtry and the The Wood Brothers.

It's starting to dawn on me a week from today I'll be in New Orleans with media credentials representing KKFI at Folk Alliance International. I'm not in the proper head space yet but I hope to get there....

Full tilt boogie coming to ya from me on the Tasty Brew, MidCoast LIVE and Siren Song FM in January and February!

On this rainy, dreary day in the Heartland, I'm doing what I can not to succumb to the darkness... by putting together playlists for radio shows, fielding innumerable emails from folks just wanting to be heard as I prepare for Folk Alliance International Conference in New Orleans later this month.... and holding loved ones close. Coming up on the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show, Siren Song FM and MidCoast LIVE as follows:

January 9 on the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show on starting at 10 am Central featuring folks coming to Kansas City to play for us like Zachary Stevenson (Green Guitar Folk House on January 17 with The Swallowtails opening), The Droptines and Crow and Gazelle January 16 at Knux, The HillBenders in KCMO @ Knuckleheads Saloon Stage January 16 at Knux.

Christian Dixon Music joins me live in the studio tomorrow in the 11 am hour in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign for his new music.
January 10 on Siren Song FM (from 11am until 1 pm Central on KKFI) I'm joined in the noon hour by C. Karr for a live in studio performance.

Sneak peak for the future: I'm hosting Alejandra Quintana as my Guest DJ on January 16 and welcoming Leah Sproul back to the studio in the 11 am hour that morning. I'm presenting Teri Quinn for a full hour of live performance on January 30 on MidCoast LIVE at Noon Central and on February 27, I'll be introducing you to a new artist for the rotation... Caleb Nelsen a country songwriter from Topeka, KS joins me in the studio on The Tasty Brew!
I'm ready for a nap...

Tomorrow (Nov 21) I welcome Beau Bledsoe, Artistic Director of Ensemble Ibérica and Songwriter Lauren Anderson to the show beginning at 10 am Central. On this Friday's Tasty Brew Music Radio Show on KKFI 90.1 FM (October 31 at 10 am Central) I welcome Julie Bennett Hume and Gracie Caggiano of the Heartland Song Network and have scheduled a phone convo with Cole Chaney coming to Knuckleheads Kansas City November 1 in the 11 am hour.

Heartland Song Network, Manor Records, KC Folk Fest and KKFI 90.1 FM are teaming up to raise funds to present a united presence at the upcoming Folk Alliance International Conference in New Orleans in January 2026. We'll be spinning some tunes from a recent June 2025 "Heartstrings" collab project between Heartland Song Network and the Calgary Canada Songsmiths.

Bonus fun fact.... turns out the drummer for the Blaine Younger Band lives three doors from me. Blaine was an early guest on the Tasty Brew before he relocated to Nashville about a dozen years ago. His band is back together and playing gigs in the heartland so you know I have to give his latest "Straight from the Heartland" a spin... or two... or three!

I’ve been playing email tag with Singer/Songwriter Max Gomez’s team for a couple of months now and I’m pretty sure we’re going to make a conversation happen tomorrow in the 11 am Central hour on the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show on KKFI 90.1 FM!

Max grew up in one of the most magical places on earth…Taos, New Mexico, where he fell under the influence of country blues early on and developed a songwriting style that was uniquely his. He received critical acclaim upon the release of his debut album Rule The World (2013, New West Records); and his subsequent EP, Me and Joe (2017, Brigadoon Records), contained a freshly minted classic, “Make It Me,” which has gained over 4 million listeners on Spotify alone.

As a budding performer, Max apprenticed in the rarefied musical micro-climate of northern New Mexico, where troubadours like Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard helped foster a Western folk sound both cosmic and country.

He has shared billing on hundreds of stages with stalwarts of the genre like James McMurtry, Buddy Miller, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jeff Beck, and Johnny Depp.

Join me tomorrow, Friday, October 10 at 11 am Central for a conversation with Max Gomez!

Tomorrow’s show is dedicated to the memory of Kansas City legendary songwriter Tom Hall who passed away this week.

So sweetie...ya say ya wanna be a DJ?

Back in the late 1960’s fresh out of high school, I went to the local brand spanking new FM radio station and asked to train and become a DJ. I was that music nerd that loved reading liner notes and was the “go to” person in school if you wanted to know who sang what song and who were the members of a particular band. I listened to the radio whenever I could, like we all did, and I could “see” myself being on the radio. I was not encouraged to pursue being a DJ by that radio guy, but was told something along the lines....“Sweetie, if you can type and make coffee, we have a job for you.” I said no thank you and went on my way for the intervening decades to type and make coffee for lawyers. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have taken that radio station office gig (I still can type like the wind) and as times changed....worked myself into the on air studio. Oh well... fast forward 40 plus years and here I am on the radio and podcasting and loving every minute “on the air” just like I knew I would. Tasty Brew Music is a labor of love to share my passion for Americana/Bluegrass/Country/Roots Music ... an attempt to curate the content that comes to me in these genres via music, live performances, photos, links and stories. I am a member of the Americana Music Association and Folk Alliance International. The views and opinions expressed on the radio show and on my Podcast, Tasty Brew Music, are mine alone and those of my guests. I welcome comments, suggestions for music and other interactions to highlight on my programs. The goal - to educate and uplift our collective spirits by promoting the creativity of the singers, songwriters and musicians in this community. As John Hartford said “Turn your radio on and listen to the music in the air....”
