Bradford Doolittle of ESPN on the Royals:

"Some of the many teams in baseball's wide midsection looked at their mediocrity as an excuse to punt. The Royals looked at it as an opportunity to have some fun. Kansas City was 39-46 at the end of June. Now, the Royals, in Boston facing one of the teams they are chasing in the wild-card race, are one of the AL's hottest teams. Injuries and underperformance have hampered Kansas City for most of the season, but the front office believed in the group enough to address the holes in a meaningful way It's not fancy. It's just trying."

Bailey Falter on his Royals debut.

"Tough one tonight, job is to go out there and set the tone for these guys. And didn't do my job. I'll think about it tonight. Get with the pitching staff tomorrow, see what we can come up with and definitely try to be better next start."

Since the start of May, Bailey Falter had consistently performed well, allowing no more than four runs in any of his starts. Over the course of 16 starts during that period, he maintained an ERA of 2.93. Just had a rough outing against a really hot team.

Nick Loftin on the play at home:

"Hit the bag, kept my head down because that's usually what I do with two outs and was trying to score on a base hit, looked up, saw him put his hand up, and at that point, just kind of kept going. I was being aggressive. Got lost in the present and wasn't really thinking about where we were at in the score. Won't happen again. Should probably go through knowing the situation."

Matt Quatraro added:
"You got to understand the game situation at that point. He's trying to be aggressive. Probably got a little carried away, knowing there were two outs. Normally you take chances with two outs, but when you're down by three and you're getting the go-ahead run to the plate right there, you got to stay at third."
