Three food retail trade groups peg the cost of implementing state waivers to disqualify certain foods and beverages for purchase via the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) at about $1.6 billion for grocery retailers.
“Clear, consistent definitions and a more realistic timeline would help retailers successfully implement this new reality while keeping SNAP access smooth and dependable,” said Peter Matz, director of food, pharmacy and health policy at FMI - The Food Industry Association.
