My Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Autumn is one of my favorite times to sew. It’s so cozy to grab a warm drink, some snuggly fabric, and settle in for a long day of sewing. I intend to make 7 new pieces for my fall wardrobe and am pulling the rest from my closet.

These are the me-mades, plus a few ready-to-wear, pieces that I’m bringing into my fall wardrobe.

I can’t recommend sewing in a color palette enough. All of these pieces were pulled from my current wardrobe and work well together. I love being able to mix and match so much of my wardrobe!

True Bias Tobie Jacket

I’ve finished my wearable muslin for the Precious Fabric challenge and I love it! The Kelli at True Bias Tobie Jacket is the perfect, slightly oversized jacket for autumn. The only adjustment I made on this version was to shorten the body, but I’ll probably also shorten the sleeves a bit for my final version. I’m loving everything else about this pattern and am excited for cooler days and the opportunity to wear my new jacket.

Spanx AirEssentials Dupe

This gorgeous Fabric + Flow | Sewing Fabrics & Patterns Bamboo French Terry inspired a ready-to-wear dupe that I couldn’t be more excited about! The Bamboo makes these pieces a bit more drapey than my usual cotton and I feel so elegant in these pieces. And can you believe the name brand tee was $98 alone! This is one time I definitely saved money back making my own set, plus these pieces fit me and are in my best colors!

Chalk & Notch Bora Dress

I wrapped up my scrappy capsule with the Gabriela Longfish | Chalk and Notch Bora Dress. I actually had a different pattern in mind until I saw this dress when it was released earlier in the summer and I immediately changed my mind. I love that Chalk & Notch patterns come with cup sizes so this one fits great without any adjustments. And the multiple, smaller pattern pieces not only offer great shaping on the body, but they also lend themselves to using the fabric remnants I had left. I didn’t even have to piece any fabric together! 👏🏻

I think this is my last summer make for the season, but I plan on making a sleeved Bora this fall. Have you started your autumn sewing?

Love Notions Serenade Top & Dress 🎶

I can hardly say how much I love the newest Tami Meyer sewing pattern, the Serenade Top & Dress. As with all Love Notions patterns, this one comes with SO MANY different views. I especially love the tie front closures and the ability to use coordinating prints. This look is all over my Pinterest boards right now!

For the wrap top version I used two different fableism supply co cottons, made my own bias tape, and used the tie closures. This piece is absolutely going to star in my fall wardrobe. For the dress I used a Japanese linen cotton blend, made a few small fit adjustments, and finished it off with the button closure. And of course, it has pockets. 😉

I sewed each of these pieces in the time it took me to watch a classic Disney movie. This pattern isn’t hard to sew, but I do sew quickly. If you’d like just a bit more help Love Notions is offering a private sew along with this pattern. How fun to sew in community!

After making my first summer capsule I still had so many sizable remnants. And I didn’t want these fabrics to just go back into my stash when I could put them to use right now. So I got creative and made a little scrappy capsule.

Last week I showed you the bottoms and this week I’m sharing the three tops I was able to make! My Closet Core Patterns Tee (a free pattern!) in a citron cotton jersey, a Tami Meyer Summer Basic Tank in a Salmon cotton jersey, and a Seamwork West Shirt in a rayon fabric remnant. This Style Maker Fabrics cotton jersey is my very favorite for t-shirt making and since summer tops take such little fabric I didn’t even need to piece anything together!
