There is something about golden hour.

For a few brief moments, the light changes everything it touches. Familiar places look different. Ordinary things catch our attention. And then, almost as quickly as it arrived, it's gone.

For Day 4, we'd invite you to step into that light.

Write a short piece, reflection, or poem that takes place entirely during golden hour.

Let the light matter. Let it change the way something looks or feels. Let it illuminate something your character, your narrator, or maybe even you hadn't noticed before.

Then...

ENGAGE: Drop a ๐ŸŒ… in the comments to let us know you're writing today. We'd also love to know: Are you a sunrise or sunset person?

WRITE: Give yourself 5โ€“10 minutes (or more) inside golden hour. Follow the light and see what it reveals.

SHARE: Give us a glimpse of what you created. A favorite line, a photo of your page, a thought you discovered, or the whole thing if you want to. Tag and so we can experience it with you.

WIN: Engaging and sharing gives you another chance to win some Wildly Free goodies. But today's prompt offers another kind of win, too: the chance to notice something ordinary in a completely different light.

Thank you for being with us and sharing in the magic of golden hour during our October Writing Challenge.

Three days in. Maybe you've written twice already. Maybe today is the first day you're joining us.

Either way, today we're asking you to slow down enough to really experience a moment.

Think of a favorite fall memory and bring yourself back into it through smell, taste, touch, sound, and sight.

Then go one layer deeper. What thoughts, feelings, or emotions are connected to what you remember?

And if memory isn't where you want to go today, create the moment instead. Build a scene so vivid that someone else can almost smell the air, taste what's cooking, or feel the chill against their skin.

Then...

ENGAGE: Like this post and tell us in the comments: What's one smell, taste, sound, sight, or feeling that immediately says fall to you?

WRITE: Give yourself 5โ€“10 minutes (or more) to explore the moment. Don't just describe the senses. Follow where they take you.

SHARE: Share your creation, a favorite line, a photo of your page, or something you discovered along the way. Tag and so we can experience it with you.

WIN: Every time you engage and share, you're entering to win Wildly Free goodies. And every time you make space to notice, create, and connect, you've already gained something.

Let's keep leaning into what happens when we make space to create, share, and tell our stories alongside one another.

Day 2 invites us to take a cue from the season itself.

Leaves change. They loosen their hold. Eventually, they let go.

Today, we'd invite you to use falling leaves as a metaphor for letting go of something: an idea, a pattern, a thing, or even someone past, present, or idealized.

Take this wherever you need it to go. It can be deeply personal or entirely fictional. Serious or playful. A few honest sentences or the beginning of something much bigger.

Then...

ENGAGE: Like this post and drop a ๐Ÿ‚ below if you're joining us today. Better yet, tell us one word that comes to mind when you think of letting go.

WRITE: Give yourself 5โ€“10 minutes (or more) to explore. Don't worry about where you end up. In fact, our Free Write Friday post for today might even give you a few ideas here.

SHARE: Share your creation, a favorite line, a photo of your page, or something the writing helped you notice. Tag and so we can experience it with you.

WIN: Every time you engage and share, you're entering to win Wildly Free goodies. But every moment you give yourself to create is a win all its own.

Day 2: Let's see what we're ready to release.

What does your creative process actually look like?

Not what you think it "should" look like.

Yours.

Maybe you need complete silence. Maybe you need a playlist loud enough to drown everything else out.

Maybe you outline every detail before you begin. Maybe you discover what you're thinking somewhere around paragraph four.

Maybe your journal is filled with carefully written pages. Maybe it's photographs, scraps of paper, half-finished sentences, arrows pointing everywhere, and something you scribbled sideways because you ran out of room.

Maybe you write every morning. Maybe you write 2,000 words at midnight and don't touch the story again for a week.

Maybe you need to sit still. Maybe your best ideas arrive while you're walking, driving, showering, talking, doodling, cleaning, or doing almost anything except trying to have a good idea.

There are so many ways to create.

And sometimes we spend more energy trying to make ourselves fit someone else's idea of a creative process than we do noticing what actually allows our own creativity to flow.

So today, lean into responding to our Free Write Friday questions and then try something.

Move to a different room. Write out of order. Grab scissors and glue. Talk your idea into your phone. Put on music. Turn everything off. Write one sentence. Cover the whole page.

And pay attention to what happens when you do.

Your creative process doesn't have to look like anyone else's. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฆ‹

Day 1 of the Wildly Free October Writing Challenge is here, and we're starting right at the doorstep of the season.

We invite you to start by writing a memory or a moment that opens with someone stepping outside and realizing fall has arrived.

Capture the sights. The sounds. The feelings.

What significance does this moment hold?

Then...

ENGAGE: Like this post and drop a ๐Ÿ below to let us know you're writing with us! Bonus points if you tag a friend you want to write with you this month.

WRITE: Give yourself 5โ€“10 minutes (or more). Write, sketch, reflect, or follow the prompt somewhere we never expected.

SHARE: Share your creation, a favorite line, a photo of your page, or even something you discovered while creating. Tag and so we can experience it with you.

WIN: Every time you engage and share, you're entering to win some Wildly Free goodies. But remember: Every time you show up for yourself and your creativity is the real win.

It starts today.

31 days. 31 invitations to pause, create, reflect, and see what happens when you give yourself a little space to follow your creativity.

You don't have to be a writer. You don't have to show up every day. You just have to say yes when you can.

Swipe through to see why we think you might want to spend October with us, then stick around. Day 1 is coming next.

Tag someone you'd love to bring along, follow , and let's do this together.

September felt like a doorway.

A moment to look at what has grown and ask: What wants to grow next?

Wildly Free began with books, but somewhere along the way, we realized it was never only about publishing.

It was about people.

And one thing we believe deeply is that you don't have to be a "writer" to be a storyteller.

Maybe words don't come easily on a page.
Maybe how you learn and process is uniquely different.
Maybe the words come easily when you say them out loud, even when they feel impossible to type.
Maybe you've spent your whole life believing that writing just isn't something you're good at because it was never a space of creativity but of expectations to perform a certain way.

Your story still belongs here.

Our job isn't to decide who is capable of telling a story. It's to listen, meet you where you are, and help you find the tools and support that allow your voice to come through. Because there is no single right way to tell a story.

As we step into October, we're excited to talk more about what it really means to make storytelling accessible and welcoming to every kind of mind and every kind of storyteller.

So we'll leave September and step into October with this: What story has been asking you to tell it?

You don't have to know how to write it yet. We can help with that part.

Your story matters because you matter.

And if you're curious, drop CONNECT in thr comments. You'll get access to a simple, low-key space to be seen and heard with James & Rachelle.

It's time to tell your story. ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ’œ

Wednesday Writing Wisdom: Show up anyway.

Yes. We are fully aware of what time it is. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wednesday Writing Wisdom is arriving very late this Wednesday, and somehow that feels like exactly the point. (Kind of like Free Write Friday coming out on Saturday... For anyone keeping score at home, Wildly Free is, in fact, 100% human!)

We put so much pressure on ourselves to show up the way we planned. At the right time. With enough energy. For the full hour. With the perfect words. Ready to give whatever we're doing everything we've got.

But doing anything meaningful is going to be messy. We'll be late. Distracted. Operating with a battery rocking only 23% and pleading for a charger.

Come anyway.

Write for ten minutes instead of an hour. Open the document at 10 p.m. Return to the project you haven't touched in three weeks. Walk into the room after everyone else has already settled in. Pick the dream back up even if you're convinced you should be further along by now.

You haven't missed your chance just because you didn't execute the plan perfectly.

Late still counts.
Five minutes still counts.
One sentence still counts.
Starting again absolutely counts.

Who cares if you didn't arrive exactly when or how you intended?

You're here. And showing up is always where we begin.

It's time to tell your story. Even if it's almost tomorrow. ๐Ÿคฃ

Turns out, free-writes can happen on Saturdays too. ๐Ÿ˜‚

This week got away from me, so Free Write Friday is showing up a day late. Maybe that's fitting for today's invitation, though, because creativity doesn't always arrive according to schedule either.

Our creative lives are full of things we started and never finished: old journal entries, notes-app fragments, abandoned drafts, photographs, lines we loved but cut, half-written poems, voice memos, research rabbit holes, characters who never found their stories, etc etc etc.

But unfinished doesn't mean wasted.

Sometimes there's still something alive in the words and creative spaces we've left untouched. An idea we weren't ready for yet. A sentence that belongs somewhere else. A piece of an old story that reads differently because we're different now.

What might happen if we went back and harvested from some of it?

For today's slightly-late Free Write Friday:

1 - Spend a moment finding an unfinished piece of writing and re-read it. What inside it is still alive?

2 - What else have you experienced, made, or written in your creative life that might allow you to see that old writing in a different light?

3 - What would happen if you made space for old and new to grow together?

Maybe two pieces that felt like opposites, suddenly fit. Maybe one opens your mind and changes the way you see the other. Maybe together they lead somewhere neither was ever intended to go.

Follow it.

Not everything we begin needs to become what we originally imagined.

Sometimes the harvest is discovering what else was growing there all along.

It's time to tell your story.

Wednesday Writing Wisdom: Writing is commitment AND refuge.

Writing is hard.

There are days when showing up for the work of this craft pulls from us. When the words don't come easily. When we'd rather scroll, sleep, turn on the television, or do almost anything that lets us disappear for a while.

Those are the days we talk about commitment. The days we make the choice to be a writer: Sit down anyway. Open the document. Write the next sentence. Trust the habit more than the feeling.

And also...

Sometimes life is already asking enough of us.

On those days, writing doesn't have to be one more thing demanding something. It can be the place we go.

The page can hold what we don't know what to do with yet. It can give our thoughts somewhere to land. It can make room for the things we've been carrying without requiring us to understand them, fix them, or turn them into something useful.

In these moments, it is the freedom inside writing that we seek.

These aren't the days to hit a word count.
Our work doesn't have to move the manuscript forward.
Perfectly crafted language isn't the goal.
We don't even have to know what we're writing about.

We can just write because that's an important part of a writing life, too.

Some days, we need to ask what our writing needs from us. And on the days when the world feels especially heavy, maybe ask a different question:

What do I need from my writing today?

Then let the page meet you there.

And yes. It can be both that simple and beautifully complex.

Tell your story.
