We so enjoyed having members of The Debrief Project at our offices in Kansas City. Hearing their powerful stories left us even more impressed with the courage, intelligence, and moral fortitude of our warriors - and especially these guys who fought in some of the most violent and dangerous places in Iraq. Theirs is a story worth telling and knowing. It also didn't hurt that they brought a Hellfire missile to the office.

Last week, Kansas City lost a true gem. The incredibly talented musician, actor, and narrator, Danny Cox, has passed. His deep, soulful voice and generous spirit were a gift to all who knew him.

Danny was a cornerstone of our early documentary work, lending his unmatched vocal talents to bring our stories to life. His voice was more than just narration—it was storytelling at its finest, filled with warmth, wisdom, and heart.

While Danny’s voice is irreplaceable, his spirit lives on in his work and in the hearts of those he inspired. Below, we’ve shared links to some of his incredible contributions to our films—his legacy will continue to echo for years to come.

Rest easy, Danny. You will be deeply missed.

One of our favorite films - produced for the American Battlefield Trust with Medal of Honor Recipient Melvin Morris as he reflected on the heroism of another Medal of Honor recipient - Sgt. William Carney. Carney famously saved the 54th Massachusetts' flag during the assault on Battery Wagner on Morris Island during the American Civil War.

A few weeks ago, our longtime friend and cohort, Dan Hadley, brought us this exquisite, hand-painted Wide Awake sign that he had finished. The sign is a recreation of an 1860’s political banner that we copied from a newspaper engraving. It was sparked from an idea our designer, Mariana Castro had to finish her vision for our foyer. Now, it proudly adorns the entrance to our new studio in downtown Kansas City. We are really fortunate to have so many talented people, like Dan and Mariana, on the Wide Awake team!
