Today, October 13, 2025, marks the 250th birthday of the United States Navy. Formed at the outset of the Revolutionary War, the US Navy has served in every ocean and in harm's way, keeping our nation free and safe. Here is one of our recent works, produced for the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, that looks at just one aspect of the US Navy's long and illustrious history.

Everyone at Wide Awake Films is excited about this upcoming debut of the Battle of Sullivan's Island film that we are producing for South Carolina 250. If you are in the Charleston area on November 6, consider checking out this event at the Charleston Library Society.

Exciting news. The debut of the new Battle of Sullivan's Island film is now scheduled for November 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Charleston Library Society. To elevate interest and awareness of this battle on the eve of its 250th anniversary, South Carolina 250 has commissioned a new twelve-minute film designed to improve our appreciation of this event that we commemorate each year as Carolina Day. Produced by Wide Awake Films, this new Battle of Sullivan’s Island film includes exciting live action sequences, sophisticated animated map displays, and other 3D animations designed to engage today’s audience.

Today, August 7, is Purple Heart Day - the day that we remember all those who have been wounded in combat. Now at Wide Awake Films, every day is a day to remember those who have sacrificed so much in our nation's wars. This film that we produced for American Battlefield Trust features World War II veteran Woody Williams. In addition to earning the Medal of Honor as a flamethrower operator on Iwo Jima, Williams was also combat wounded on March 6, 1945, and evacuated. To Woody Williams and all those who have earned the Purple Heart, we remember you this day and every day.

Today is Juneteenth. Produced for the Berlin Equity Action Team, this documentary tells the story of the brave African American men who enlisted in Connecticut’s 29th Colored Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War and fought for the freedom of their people — and the nation. Discover their remarkable story of sacrifice and heroism on battlefields in South Carolina and Virginia. Near the end of the war, the 29th Connecticut was sent to Brownsville, Texas, where it was part of the federal force that occupied the town and brought news of the emancipation of the enslaved - celebrated today as Juneteenth.

This film was officially selected and won "Best Connecticut Film" at the 2023 Mystic Film Festival.

Today marks the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Fought on Breed's Hill on the Charlestown Peninsula, this 1775 was one of the bloodiest of the entire Revolutionary War. Wide Awake Films produced a full presentation on this battle for the new Call to Arms exhibit at the National Museum of the United States Army. In addition to this large media display, Wide Awake Films also included a Battle of Bunker Hill page within its Northern Theater interactive for the museum.

And later in the segment you will see our Battle of Yorktown display which projects both on a screen, but also onto a 3D physical map of the battlefield. Just back from a great day of filming for a new Revolutionary War project in the Charleston, South Carolina area. Excited to have the opportunity to bring new attention to the 1776 Battle of Sullivan's Island for South Carolina 250. Our thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at Charles Towne Landing (South Carolina State Parks) and the Town of Sullivan's Island. And our deep gratitude to all the reenactors and living historians who were a part of our sets. The 2nd South Carolina Regiment of the Continental Line, Lieutenant Colonel's (Webster's) Company, 33rd Regiment of Foot 1776-1783, HMS Phoenix, and so many others.
