Make48 Make48 is a competition & community for everyday innovators. Make48 provides the tools and technicians to build your prototype.

Make48, the “world’s fastest invention competition”, is the nationwide invention documentary series that gives teams exactly 48 hours to come up with an idea and build a prototype based on a challenge. Teams present their working prototype and promotional video to a panel of judges. One winning team wins a cash prize! Make48 is the brainchild of a group of Kansas City-based inventors who have been

developing and launching products for decades. Their passion for inventing and problem solving led to the creation of Make48. The series is unscripted and consists of experts, entrepreneurs and the everyday inventor’s race to beat the clock and come up with the next big idea. Season 3 is currently airing on local PBS/APT (American Public Television) stations across the country. Watch seasons 1, 2 and 3 by going to Amazon Prime Video, PBS.org or Make48.com.

During this second semester, our Secondary Academic Students have been involved in the nationwide Make48 STADIUM ACCESSIBILITY Challenge. The goal of this competition was to work on making stadiums and arenas more accessible and inclusive for the blind and visually impaired community. As part of the competition, the teams had to begin with a 1-minute video, followed by a 4-5 minute pitch presentation, and finally, a 4-5 minute Q & A with a judge's panel (all in front of an audience made up of NMSBVI staff!) This was an extremely valuable opportunity for our students to practice competitive presentation skills in front of an audience.

At right: Two students, seated at a table, are seen in profile. The young man has a laptop in front of him and the young woman is speaking into a microphone. On the table next to her, a prototype can be seen, with different colored bands of paper on a board, with a tube in the middle. Behind them is a large screen with the words, "How it Works". The photos are overlaid on a blueprint background, with the words, "Maker Mondays" across the top. The NMSBVI logo is at bottom left.)
