Once a quiet telecommunications building, the former Mobilefone store has been reborn as Crossroads Cantina—a swingingly stylish, Mexican-inspired restaurant awash in sandy pinks and sage greens that feels like equal parts desert sunset and urban oasis. The new spot is helmed by the team behind The Rockhill Grille and The Wise Guy.

Food columnist Jenny Vergara dined in and wrote more.

In downtown Kansas City, a new kind of sports bar has arrived—one where women’s athletics take center stage. After several years of fundraising, renovations, and anticipation, The Dub opened its doors last fall, bringing a fast-growing national movement of women’s sports-focused bars to the heart of the city.

In our January issue, Jenny Vergara tells its story—and drops the mix for one of its signature cocktails, The Jewel Box. It's named after the legendary Jewel Box Lounge, one of Kansas City’s first drag bars in the 1950s and ’60s.

After the holidays, dark and dreary January can land like a frozen thud. If only we could bottle some of that warm and lively December spirit to carry us over. Well, we can!

Tomorrow, 7:30 p.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Astra Ensemble performs their annual winter program celebrating both the contemplative quiet of the season and the joyful spark that carries us into a new year. It's one of four can't-miss art events in KC this month.
