Why let the cicadas be in the background when you could just go inside?

Because we don’t always have the luxury of escaping to silence with the most curated ambient background music playlist and the most flattering lighting to write the most eloquent and insightful thoughts.

Sometimes we only have a few minutes on a back porch to ourselves with cicadas in the background.

Sometimes we make the most of what we have.

I ruffle a lot of feathers of people who hate that I call this “capitalism for good” because they think capitalism is the root of all evil & I’m doing my best to prop it up. I actually think this is a human nature argument: capitalism is bad when it’s fueled by exploitation & greed. When community & the world around us takes priority, it can be a force for good & positive impact. A complete overhaul would be great and I don’t want anyone to lose sight of bigger dreams of positive change of a totally different economic & government system or if that’s just a world without cicada sounds in the background and a cringy millennial begrudgingly using social media.

My point is, sometimes we just need to do the best we can with what we have. Cicadas, flaws, and all.

Plus, it’s nature! I embrace nature in all its glory, not just the more appealing parts.

I do a fair amount of recording from a screened in porch when it’s nice outside especially for the Bittersweet Paradox Project and the cicadas love to make themselves known. They’re loud and proud!
