Saying It With Food
Titus Davidson's love for his only daughter could be measured by the empty Tupperware in her cupboard. Whenever they met, he gave her a container filled with his latest creation, and his daughter, Tanya Dale, 25, often took a while to return the empties. Mr. Davidson never earned enough to buy her expensive gifts, so cooking was his way of doting. "He acted like he was the only one that ever had a child," said his sister Shirley White. Mr. Davidson, 55, was the second of 16 children, growing up on a farm in rural Jamaica. Cooking was a chore, but when he moved to Flatbush, Brooklyn, in 1972, it helped him land a job in the kitchen of a Jamaican restaurant. When Mr. Davidson visited his daughter at her mother's apartment in the 1980's, he took dolls and lollipops, but also homemade jerk chicken and curried goat. He indulged her when she became a vegetarian, taking meatless dishes to their lunches together. They often ate in the plaza next to 2 World Trade Center, where Mr. Davidson had worked since 1991 as a security guard for Morgan Stanley. Mr. Davidson encouraged his daughter to get the education he never had. She went to Columbia and then to Hunter College, where she earned a master's degree in social work. When she got scholarships, his only reservation was that "he felt bad because he wanted to help me out himself," she said.

Sweetness of Spirit
Christmas Boy
Like many adults who are still children at heart, Scott M. Davidson loved Christmas. In fact, his friends in Staten Island called him Christmas Boy. One year he drove up to Perry Seridge's apartment with Christmas tree lights strung around his car, all lighted up. When cautioned that wiring lights to the car battery could be unsafe, he held up a finger and began rummaging through the pile of sweaty basketball clothes in his back seat. After a few minutes, Firefighter Davidson, 33, a member of Ladder Company 118 in Brooklyn Heights, found what he was looking for: a fire extinguisher. Triumphantly, he proclaimed, "I got it covered." Firefighter Davidson was also a bartender; the father of Peter, 8, and Casey, 4; a substitute teacher at Intermediate School 49 near his home in Brooklyn, and an unabashed patriot long before the World Trade Center fire that he died fighting on Sept. 11. "He loved all things American," Mr. Seridge said. "I used to think it was kind of rare, really, especially for a young guy who had never been in a war. Looking at it now, it was nice. He'd be really happy now that everyone would have flags out." 🕯️🗽 TODAY WE MOURN, BUT WE ALSO CELEBRATE THE UNYIELDING SPIRIT OF OUR NATION. 🌟

A Fight for His Beloved
"He is going to get married in July," Jeff Davidson was saying Friday about his brother Michael, a 27-year-old equity options sales trader for Cantor Fitzgerald. "Her name is Dominique DeNardo. They met in college, at Rutgers. He just saw her from a distance, fell in love with her and wanted her. So he beat up her boyfriend and took her. Caveman-like, pretty much. And they've lived happily ever after. They got engaged on Sept. 21, 2000. On her 25th birthday, he took her to Cancun to propose. He lied to her by saying he won a trip on one of the Web sites just for the weekend. About midway through, he finally popped the question. He waited until sunset on the first night. "He's a big mush ball. He cries at commercials. But you better not put that in because he thinks he's a tough guy. He's kind of a big kid — 5 foot 10, 215 pounds. But he's as sensitive as they come. We have a grandma down in Florida. So every chance we get, we try to get Grandma to fly up. Grandma's like, 'I don't have the money right now.' My brother's like, 'Don't worry.' He pays for it, or we all pitch in, whatever. We get her up here somehow. He cares." ETCHED IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER: September 11, 2001 — a day of unthinkable loss and unbreakable spirit. 🕊️💔🇺🇸

🎂🕯️Happy Birthday😞🕊️
😭😭Remembering 9/11
Michael D'Auria was a very warm and loving young man who had a purpose in life. It was somewhat of a struggle getting there but he knew what his goal was and he succeeded. His entire life he wanted to be a fireman. He was sworn into the department on May 2,2001 after receiving 100 percent on both the written and physical tests. He was so proud to be a part of the FDNY. Mike was a chef at various restaurants in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. When he graduated from high school, he went to culinary school since he had been too young at that time to take the fire department test. Michael loved getting tatoos, but they each had a very special meaning to him, e.g. St. Michael the Archangel on his right shoulder. He felt he was his protector. Mike began painting last year. Something he never tried before, but when he did he had such a talent that people were just amazed seeing his paintings. Most of all, Michael was a caring, giving person. He literally would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. Michael was a hero to many people over the years, now he's a HERO to all. As I sit here and write, I cry because my heart aches but I know you are happy now, Michael. You knew life here was only a small part of a very big picture. Michael made a statement to his sister, Christina, several months before September 11: "I know when I die it's going to be in a big way and it's going to change the world." How right you were my son. Always and forever in our hearts.

Just a Working Man
Lynda Mari was painting her porch last fall when she was approached by a construction worker with an extension cord. "Hello, I'm Eddie," he said. "You mind if I borrow your power?" Eddie D'Atri was a handsome, muscular fellow. "I told him, 'You can borrow anything you want," Ms. Mari said the other day. She asked him if he was a fireman. "I just felt it," she said. "Something just told me." He told her no, he was just a working man, but she didn't believe it. Her brother is a fireman, and something deep inside her made her fearful of falling in love with a guy like that. But she did. They were engaged June 30. Mr. D'Atri was 38. He studied nursing and was a lieutenant at Squad 1 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He was crowned Mr. Staten Island in 1987. Sadly, steel is stronger than muscle, and Mr. D'Atri leaves behind a broken heart. 🕊️ 🗽9/11 WAS A TEST OF OUR NATION’S HEART — AND WE SHOWED THE WORLD OUR STRENGTH. 💪

Anette Dataram worked in accounting for Windows on the World at 1 World Trade Center and planned to pursue a bachelor's degree to further her career as an accountant. But the 25- year-old's real passion seemed to be food ‹ not that served at the famous restaurant where she worked, but her own."Get me a big fish, I'm going to bake it," she would tell her mother after watching one of the cooking television shows she loved. Then she would cook the new recipe for her parents, her sister and her two brothers, with whom she lived in Queens. "Yes, it was very good," Chandra Dataram said of her oldest daughter's culinary abilities.Mrs. Dataram said her daughter, who was engaged to be married next year, was quiet and simple, not "a dressed-up type," but was also driven and ambitious. In New York City for the last nine years, the family had come to this country from Guyana to take advantage of its opportunities, she said, and her daughter was certainly making it.

Elizabeth Darling was touched by a sermon at a Baptist church in Newark last Sunday about struggles that making you stronger. Ms. Darling had enough struggles to turn her into victorious. She was the single mother of a 2-year-old boy. Fearing of being laid off from her job as a business analyst at Marsh & McLennan, a financial services conglomerate. Worrying about her mortgage payments. The daughter of a minister, Ms. Darling, 28, was a spiritual person. She spoke to her best friend, Toyia Burks, about the sermon, and was surprised to learn that Ms. Burks had heard a similar sermon. It seemed to tell Ms. Darling that she was on the right path. "She was going through a lot of transition and just trying to find a balance," Ms. Burks said. "She reached back to her Christian roots." 🇺🇸🗽 SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 — A DAY WE SHALL ALWAYS REMEMBER. A Tribute to Joe, A Gentle Soul, A Mighty Heart
🎂🕯️ Happy Birthday 😭😭
🇺🇸🕯️Remembering 9/11😭😭
Joe’s life was blessing to all who knew him as family, as friends and as my husband. Joe was born and raised in West Islip by his parents, Jean and Joe and was the adored brother, the “king” of his three sisters, Sharon, Kathy, and Jeanmarie. He graduated with honors from West Islip High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Providence College in 1995. Our life began with a simple kiss in the spring of 1996 and he forever changed my life. We were married on July 1, 2000.
Joe began working at Cantor Fitzgerald in 1997 as a securities trader. He was always laughing with his coworkers. He considered himself fortunate to work with such great people.
Joe was very proud of the house we just bought in February of 2001. He tok pride in mowing the lawn, doing yard work and barbecuing. Joe also enjoyed working out, going to the vineyards and to the beach, and watching sports.
There are not enough words to express the amazing man that Joe was. He was always interested in whatever conversation he was engaged in, always making jokes, even at his own expense just to make others laugh. Most importantly, Joe lived a life full of love with no regrets. He made each day count, which is an important lesson many of us learned from him. They took the best of us when they took Joe. He was laughter and love, integrity and goodness, patience and peace, loyalty and honesty. Joe will be forever missed and loved by so many because he gave us a lifetime of love and happiness in each and every day he was with us.
Joe, you are my husband, my best friend, my soul mate. You brought me a perfect love that shined through every time I looked into your eyes. We just fit, perfectly. I will always carry all of the love we shared in me. I miss you terribly and I love you with all my heart.
🙏🗽 TO THE MOTHERS, FATHERS, SIBLINGS, AND FRIENDS WHO LOST LOVED ONES — WE STAND WITH YOU. 🤍

Gerard Coppola Obituary
The Rock 'n' Roll Grandpa Already at age 12, he was a broadcasting nut. He bought a two-watt transmitter, built a mini-radio station in his basement in East Orange, N.J., and began broadcasting, rock 'n' roll and personal musings throughout the town. His friends loved it. Gerard Coppola's love of broadcasting and music was the central thread of his life. Mr. Coppola, who was also known as Rod and JRod, was antenna engineer for WNET, Channel 13, on the 110th floor of the World Trade Center's north tower. His Web site ‹ NJPeople.com/jrod ‹ lives on and features his doleful songs. Not only did he mix the songs, but he sang and played all the instruments ‹ guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. "Gerard was a dreamer," said his sister, Cynthia. "These are the people who are visionaries, who are risk-takers. They dare to listen to their own voices." As a teenager, he began playing in rock bands and writing songs. At family gatherings, everyone wanted to hear him tell stories. "People sought him out," his sister said. "He had a gift. He was like the Pied Piper of the family." At home, he sought to bring his love of music to his wife, Alice, and their four daughters, Angeline, 20, Angela, 19, Delinda, 15, and Alison, 8. He would have turned 47 today. "When his first grandson, Andre, was born five months ago," his sister said, "he came to my house and said, 'Cindy, I can't wait for you to see him. He's a gorgeous baby.' He said, 'I'm going to be such a cool grandfather.' " Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on November 12, 2001. Gerard Coppola, 46, a natural talent Rod Coppola loved his family, his job at WNET-TV, music, and, especially, his baby grandson just born in May. "He was very excited about becoming a grandfather," his sister, Cynthia Hamburger, said yesterday. "He called me and said, 'Wait until you see the baby. He's beautiful.'" Mr. Coppola vowed to be "such a cool grandfather," Hamburger recalled. "He didn't have a problem with being a young grandfather," she said. "It's too bad that Andre won't get to know this wonderful grandfather now." Gerard "Rod" Coppola, 46, of New Providence, died inside the World Trade Center following the Sept. 11 terrorists' attacks. He worked on the 101st floor of One World Trade Center, where many television and radio stations had transmitting equipment, Hamburger said. Mr. Coppola's wife, Alice, and other family members remember him as a warm, outgoing man who had a natural talent for music, radio and "fixing anything." As a child, he used to bring the neighborhood children to his East Orange home, where he would broadcast from a rudimentary radio station, his sister said. As an adult, Mr. Coppola produced a political show for ham radio audiences. He was very patriotic. "There's almost an irony that this is the way he died, because my brother loved this country and was distressed sometimes at the lack of patriotism and lack of respect of public office," she said. "When we see all the flags out now, we think this would make him happy. It makes us look at each other differently." The youngest of three children, Mr. Coppola was a natural-born entertainer who liked to tell a story and make people laugh. And he was always considered the "baby brother," even after he became a grandfather, she said. "He was open-hearted and funny," his wife said through tears. Mr. Coppola was a broadcast engineer for WNET. He attended Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Besides his wife, sister and grandson, Mr. Coppola is survived by four daughters, Angela, Alison, Angeline Li and DeLinda Li; his father, George J. Coppola Sr.; a brother, George J. Coppola Jr.; a niece and two nephews.

Every Kid's Coach "
You don't know Joe Coppo, and you do," Mike Lupica wrote in The Daily News two Sundays after the attacks. "Every town, if it is lucky, has somebody like him, the guy who doesn't just want to coach his own kids but all the kids." Joseph J. Coppo, 47, a burly municipal bond trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, coached all four of his children, and hundreds of other children in New Canaan, Conn. "He was very demanding, but he was someone you always wanted to work hard for," said his daughter, Kathleen, 22, who played center field for him on a softball team. This summer, Mr. Coppo coached his youngest son's All-Star baseball team. Theplayers, 13 years old, attended his funeral in their uniforms. Kathleen Coppo, who described her father as "my best friend, the first person I turned to for anything," teaches a class on social justice at a small Catholic girls school. Recently one of her students asked her whether Sept. 11 had caused her to abandon her pacifist beliefs. No, she replied ‹ an answer, she said, that might have pleased her father, who considered applying for conscientious-objector status when he was drafted just as the Vietnam War was ending. "He was not into war," she said.
