A small garden is doing big things in Bedford! 🍅🥒🥔

Westchester Land Trust’s Bedford Garden Program is growing and donating thousands of fresh vegetables to neighbors in need. Since 2012, volunteers have harvested nearly 17,000 pounds of food (that’s 85,000 servings!) for local food programs. Read about this program’s funding setbacks but continued determination to feed the community, connect with nature, and make every seed count!

The Recorder has achieved many milestones in our first year. With tremendous community support, we launched our website last July and debuted our weekly print edition last September. We also recently expanded our coverage area to Mount Kisco.

Here are a few other first-year highlights:

A high standard of community journalism. Our news reporting is nonpartisan, fact-based and data-driven. It seeks to strengthen transparency and accountability of our public officials.

Fiscal responsibility and transparency. While carefully managing expenses, we continue to grow income from three areas: subscriptions, advertising and donations. These funds pay for our newsroom and administrative costs.

Editorial and management depth. We have steadily grown our editorial capacity, assembling a team of seasoned editors and journalists. Our volunteer-led board of directors meets weekly and provides hands-on leadership in all areas of operation.

As we approach the first anniversary of our weekly newspaper, we remain committed to providing you with original reporting and local news that you can’t get anywhere else.

As always, your financial support is vital to sustain our nonprofit news organization. Thank you!
