Slip editing in progress. For the audio nerds: slip editing or quantization is one of the most overlooked elements of the recording process. The sound of modern music is largely attributed to editing to near-perfection, allowing all the instruments to move as one solid unit. At Raydon, we take the time to make sure every note is exactly where it should be, guaranteeing a clean and polished mix for any style of music.

D6's are usually reserved for kick drums, but they sound absolutely phenomenal on toms. My favorite setup for shell mics is D6 on kick and toms, and a 57 on snare top and bottom. The consistency of frequency response across kick and toms gives fast fills a super articulate and precise feeling, resulting in a tight and focused drum sound with plenty of low end support.

In the age of analog emulation plugins, the role of the console in a studio has gone from the heart of the song to an expensive laptop stand. We've routed our console to run outboard compression in parallel, allowing us to blend multiple master chains without worrying about the phase coherency issues of parallel plugins. The end result is a freely configurable blend of punch, glue, sheen, and saturation. Plus, it's a perfect way to add a little extra analog warmth to a mastered track.

Why waste time many k**b when few k**b do trick?

Acapulco Gold - Lovingly referred to as "the PULCO", this poweramp distortion circuit has enough gain on tap to ruin just about any amplifier. I recommend running it just below noon to prevent fires. It's been used heavily on and albums, both as main tones and low supporting guitars.

3904 - This gated fuzz nails the velcro sound, is dead silent, and provides an insane transient when the gate opens. Layering this alongside mid to high gain guitars gives an extra punch and push to any song transition. It's been used heavily on choruses and breakdowns, and it also looks cool as all get out.

Small Clone - This might be cheating since there's a switch too, but if it's any consolation I rarely touch it. If you know the secret use behind this pedal, you've probably already recorded at Raydon. If you don't, maybe it's time to book a session.

Bardic Advantage Dirty Boost - A lesser known drive pedal but one that will push literally any amp into high gain territory. Used frequently to drive every amp into high gain territory. Clean amps, vintage amps, amps that should absolutely not be driven into high gain territory? It does them all. Obviously, we have two of them and run them into each other because it sounds cool and nobody's getting hurt.

The Aviator - A clean boost. It's a clean boost.

DOD Phasor - Hot take but I think the Line 6 Spider ruined phasers for me. I think this pedal sounds best with the speed slow and the button in bypass.

"What's with all the Marlboro amps?" We get this question a lot. "Is it the same Marlboro I'm thinking of?" We also get this question a lot.

These solid state amps were produced in the 1970's and feature some pretty unique features. My personal favorite is the 1500B, which has an EQ pre-dynamics stage with a post-dynamic tone control. Dialing in this amp can be tricky - unlike standard amp tone stacks, turning up the treble turns down the bass and vice versa. However, with a little tweaking, this amp can achieve any tone from a compressed Twin/Dumble to a blown up Peavey Bandit.

The 1200R is a powered mixer masquerading as a guitar head. It features four inputs, allowing us to blend multiple pedal chains or dial in the Darkglass crossover tone without too much trouble. The interplay between the channels provides a much more creative tone-shaping experience than blending tracks in the DAW.

Last but not least is the 1500A, a bass amp that sounds like a mix of a RAT pedal and a Sunn amp. Legend has it you can set it to something other than "all k**bs at 10" but we haven't found a reason to do so yet.

Our Marlboro tones can be heard on guitars, basses, and possibly your next record.

And no, no relation to the cigarette brand.

A couple shots from the drum tracking session for LP3. We pulled out all the stops when micing up this kit: in addition to the standard mic setup, we added stereo mid rooms, an inside snare mic, two kick inside mics, closet and kitchen matched pairs, and a center room smash mic for a total of 23 inputs. We're so excited for you to hear this drum tone when the record comes out.

For the audio folks: snare inside mic is incredibly resonant and not nearly as punchy as the snare top and bottom. However, gating this channel off the snare trigger input gives us control of the release time of each hit, adding the perfect amount of bloom to the close mics. It's almost like having an overhead + room track of only snare. Possibly the greatest perk of using a vented snare.
