From Grassroots to Community Engagement

In 2013, a handful of people in long term recovery joined together to start Keene Serenity Center. The mission was to have a safe, sober place to hold meetings & come together for fellowship & socialization .

In the years to follow, the center gained a solid crew of volunteers and began growing its membership. Soon after, a Board of Directors was elected and, with the help of Harbor Homes as the Facilitating Organization, funding was given to the center to open Cheshire Counties first Peer Recovery Support Program, “Hand in Hand Recovery!” This became an addition to the already up and running calendar of over twenty different fellowship and support meetings, thus increasing foot traffic from 300 to over 400 each week.

Today, The Keene Serenity Center has a full time Executive Director and full time Peer Recovery Support Supervisor. There are a dozen trained front line volunteers and recovery coaches that work throughout the community doing coaching, outreach and events for the center. With the help of contracted clinical supervision, the center has assisted recovery coaches in obtaining their NH Certified Recovery Support Worker certification. Additional grant opportunities for peer recovery support have allowed for more opportunities to raise awareness of the center and all it’s offerings.

The Center is grateful for its members, donors, recovery peers, supporters and advocates. We look forward to continuing to grow our programs and services so we can support more people seeking recovery and those working hard on maintaining their recovery. We hope to continue adding more members, coaches and volunteers in the months and years to come.
