Flush mounted frames? Here’s how👇

In order to get the frame flush to the 3 mm basswood backer (that we engraved the image onto), I set up a half inch rabbet bit by at the router table and then I set the depth to a line with a 3 mm basswood and then I just ran a little cut along the back of each part of the frame so that when the frame is all assembled, I could set the backer panel in there.. there’s probably several ways to do this, but this is how I generally take care of it whenever I need to flush mount the frame.

🤔 Time to upgrade your sander?

A friend of mine lost his father about a year ago, and he asked if I could help make him something to hang up on the wall. He had an old photo of him, but I made a fresh background, and got it engraved onto 3mm basswood. That was nice.. but not good enough, so I wanted to add a cool frame.

I found an old cedar board I had in the pile, definitely had seen better days, but I knew under the crust it was going to still be beautiful. The 3x4 Sander by with their 80grit paper made quick work of the ugly exterior, so I could see what I was working with.

Once I got it ripped down to the dimensions I wanted for the frame, about 1-1/4” square, I laid in my routed detail and slapped on the pro-foam (you know it’s my fave), and made even quicker work of the fine detail sanding.

Look.. you know you hate sanding, and also you love to make cool stuff. So, it’s time my friend. Time to upgrade, you have my support ✊
