Kennebunk rings in 2026 with Wild Blueberry Ball Drop

KENNEBUNK — Downtown Kennebunk will host its annual New Year’s Eve celebration, known as NYE KBK, on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

Festivities will take place along Main Street and culminate in the Wild Blueberry Ball Drop from the Bell Tower of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church at midnight. The free event is presented by the First Parish Church, the Town of Kennebunk, and the Brick Store Museum.

Founded in 2015 by local volunteers, the celebration marks its 11th year as a family-friendly tradition that brings the community together to welcome the New Year.

Activities include ice skating at the Waterhouse Center, free admission to the Brick Store Museum from 5 to 9 p.m., and an Early Bird Blueberry Drop at 9 p.m. before the midnight countdown. The best viewing spots for the ball drop are on the lawn of the First Parish Church or across the street in front of the Brick Store Museum.

For more information about the evening’s events, visit the NYE KBK page at www.facebook.com/NYEKBK.

'Homage to Home' exhibit coming to Kennebunk Library

KENNEBUNK — The Speers Gallery at the Kennebunk Free Library will host “Homage to Home” through Dec. 31, an exhibit by local photographer Alissa Kruszenski.

Kruszenski is a self-taught photographer specializing in landscape and nature photography of southern Maine. Her passion began at age 12, when she borrowed her mom’s camera to photograph the USS George H.W. Bush from Walker’s Point. That moment sparked her interest, and she began noticing blooming flowers, sparkling water— and the beauty all around her.

“Life is made up of so many moments that we tend to overlook,” Kruszenski said. “I use nature and landscape photography to capture the magic in the mundane— moments in time that we tend to take for granted or miss entirely.”

Kruszenski’s photographs have been featured in Town & Tourist and in the Friends of Rachel Carson 2023 and 2024 calendars.
