I keep seeing some disapproving comments about me filming weddings in cargo shorts and slippahs (flip flops).
It’s pretty funny.
Here’s the part people don’t think about. I’m carrying heavy camera gear for 12 to 16 hours straight, usually with little to no breaks.
Couples fly me all over the country to film their weddings in places like Chicago, Boston, Iowa, Tennessee, California, Georgia, Hawaiʻi, and even Mexico. Half the time I’m working in climates I’m not used to ( raised in Spirit Lake Idaho) , and some of those days are hot as hell even when you’re doing nothing. Now add a full wedding day on top of that.
I dress for logistics, not to impress.
If I’m sweating through formal clothes all day, that moisture can get on gear. It can get on SD cards. It can mess with my grip. That’s not just uncomfortable, that can jeopardize your footage.
I’ve literally watched a photographer pass out right before the first kiss because they were dressed formal in summer heat. My team and I had to take over the rest of the day. It was a mess, but we got it done.
So yeah, I care more about comfort, movement, heat management, and lasting the whole day, because my job is to deliver, not to dress up for strangers.
If my outfit bugs you more than the idea of your vendor staying sharp for 12+ hours, we’re probably not a fit. And that’s totally fine.
Also, I’m a white Hawaiian with a tattoo on my face. People judge me in person. People judge me online. Either way, I’m still showing up, doing my job, and my couples are happy.
And if you’re commenting to hate, you’re still boosting the post. So thank you for the engagement.
Keep the comments coming. My couples are still booking.
