On Sept 12, 1992 I walked into the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum for the first. I was 34 years old. The top photo is what I saw. Since that day, I’ve spent over 85,000 hours trying to create what we have now. In that time we’ve raised and spent $13,000,000 to restore and run vintage unlimiteds. We have run 113 exhibitions and turned approximately 12,656 laps. We have assembled a team of truly amazing volunteers that can do anything from building boats and engines to producing events and documentary movies. Tomorrow I turn 67 and will have spent almost half of my life with these extraordinary machines and the people who make them sing. Before I turned out the light tonight, I took the second photo. The difference between the two photos show you what half a life time of work can accomplish. Unfortunately the shop was empty when I left and you can’t see the hundreds of donors and volunteers that have helped make this all possible. My only regret is that I don’t have another life time to give to them all.
