Big news. Big feelings. Big changes. You know the saying… every journey comes to an end so a new one can begin.
But first, some backstory from one of the guys who started it all… Trav, in his own words:
In high school, I started an “anti-homecoming” football game in my backyard. It grew to 40+ players, jerseys & actual fans.
In college, I created a fake frat called Madden Club at a school that didn’t allow frats. (We made hats & took over the lounge for endless PS2 tournaments.)
As a teacher, I threw a Christmas happy hour that brought out 60+ coworkers. Many hadn’t shown up to a social event in 30 years!
In Japan, we hosted 50+ people from 7 countries in our tiny apartment for Thanksgiving, with turkeys flown in from the US & $8 cranberry sauce.
The thread through it all? I bring people together. That’s what I love to do.
And for the past 12 years, I’ve been lucky enough to do it with Location Indie.
Co-founder Jason & I started with a wild idea & scrappy “F Perfection” energy.
We built businesses.
Traveled the world.
Created a space where people didn’t have to explain WHY they wanted something different.
An online community that became a movement.
From a tiny event in Austin with 7 people… to our latest Camp Indie with 125 amazing humans.
From members who met through LI and got married… to building a micro resort in Belize with LI friends.
A million more moments & memories. It’s been an unforgettable ride.
And now, this chapter is ending.
As of July 31, LI will no longer be a paid community, and I’ll be closing it as a business.
But this isn’t goodbye. It’s a handoff.
Mellissa, our longtime community manager & the glue of LI, is carrying the torch forward with my full support & 1000% blessing. Excited for the new chapter.

And me? I’m focusing on building physical spaces for connection - retreats, micro resorts & gatherings that spark lifelong friendships.
Follow me to come along for the ride.
And so for now, let’s just keep building what brings us the most JOY.
With gratitude,
Trav & Team LI
