Happy Father's Day
Poem by: Kile C. Pike
Young daddy, young daddy.
I knew you were only having fun daddy...
but I'm stunned. That was dumb daddy.
Like, how come daddy.
If I was in your shoes I'd have crumbled.
Every morning you'd get up and tumble
to problems that greeted you by the bundle
at your doorstep that led to a jungle
of hustle
and bustles,
tussling to get out of the drought.
A cycle of hand to mouth.
I did the things you've done just to follow your path
just to prove I have your DNA; how I have half.
I remember when I hated you deeply for a bit
but that's what good parenting is.
Not even Merlin could be the Wiz
you are to raise four kids.
And though not by yourself
I knew you had no help.
I said I'll do what I had to to be the better you but I never do
because I'm just me, never you and to myself I'll be forever true.
I did the things you've done just to follow your path
just to prove I have your DNA; I can't laugh.
I'll never repeat the past
but the future is a task.
