Kent State University Police is installing Flock cameras across campus, a move it said is aimed at improving safety and assisting in criminal investigations.

According to Sgt. Vance Voyles, the cameras are designed to capture license plate information to help officers identify vehicles connected to crimes.

“The data that we’re going to use with those is completely for campus safety and security criminal investigations,” Voyles said.

With 171 looks, the 2026 Annual Fashion Show Hall of Fame Gala marks the largest production in the history of the event, with a growing focus on inclusive fashion.

“What really sets it apart from previous years is the amount of diversity and innovation,” said Ryan Gibson, senior fashion merchandising major and co-producer of the show. “The lineup includes children’s wear, adaptive fashion and a strong presence of menswear, which brings a broader perspective to the runway.”

From Concept to Catwalk

The fashion show will take place on May 2, at 6:30 p.m. in Crawford Hall, where students will showcase their design collections on the runway and celebrate their accomplishments. Tickets for the event have already sold out this year.

A tabling event held by Turning Point USA was disrupted on Tuesday outside the Kent State Library after an unidentified student came up to the group with scissors in their hands.

The person used the scissors to pop red, white and blue balloons, before walking and shouting “Go f**k yourselves,” and “you f**king neck gushers too.”

The latter seemed to be directed towards the Turning Point members working the table, as the individual was mocking Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September 2025 after he was shot in the neck.

Not long ago, there was a time when Mid-Major programs in men’s college basketball could compete and hang around with the blue bloods. Think back to the early 2010s, when Butler University went to back-to-back national championships under coach Brad Stevens. In 2008, the Memphis Tigers came storming out of Conference-USA en route to the national championship game.

Both the Bulldogs and Tigers were led by future NBA stars Gordon Hayward and Derrick Rose. The Tigers also had future Los Angeles Clippers forward Chris Douglas-Roberts, and the Bulldogs had point guard Shelvin Mack, who embarked on an eight-year career in the league.

But what if these players never found their way to the smaller programs? What if Hayward and Rose started out at Duke and Kansas? Instead of playing the majority of their careers in the Horizon League and CUSA, what if Mack and Douglas-Roberts left midway through their collegiate careers in search of a larger role on a larger program – and a larger check.

On a cold Tuesday morning outside the Student Center, a familiar face returned to Kent State University campus. It wasn’t a famous alumnus or former athlete, but instead, it was a man who was daring students to think outside of the accepted norms their professors are teaching them.

Peter “the moon guy” Jarvio is an avid moon-landing and flat-earth conspiracy theorist who has been a fixture on campus for the last few years. Featured with his patented whiteboard chock full of theories on how the moon landing was faked and the earth really is flat, Jarvio was looking to speak to anybody who walked past him.

“One picture proves this [the moon landing being fake],” Jarvio said as he pointed to the famous picture of Alan Shepard hitting a golf ball off the face of the moon during the Apollo 14 mission.

As Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker pulled up for a buzzer-beating three-pointer on Oct. 27 2025, to cover the point spread against the Utah Jazz, one anonymous 20-year-old Kent State marketing major was frozen and shaking in fear.

The sophomore had just lost $1,800 in a grueling 24-hour stretch, totaling over $4,000 dollars lost in just under two years of sports gambling. Chasing his losses, the student made the decision to put $900 on a three-leg parlay concluding with the Jazz winning by 1.5 points.

“After I had lost all this money in one single day, I was sitting on the floor distraught at three in the morning and told myself ‘I’m done gambling forever,”’ the anonymous student said. “And then the next morning, I woke up and decided to go back in for more.”

After getting smacked around on Friday, the Kent State baseball team sat a second loss away from dropping its third series out of the last four and falling even further behind in tiebreakers for the Mid-American Conference. Two strong pitching performances and strong offensive performances from seniors Luke Matthews and Brody Williams led the Flashes to a critical series victory that allowed KSU to keep sole possession of first place.

Friday’s game had the beginning the Flashes wanted. After football head coach Mark Carney threw out the first pitch, senior Ciaran Caughey came out dealing getting a first-inning double play to dismiss the Cardinals. The momentum continued when redshirt freshman Nolan Belcher homered to left field to start the scoring.

The Flashes then added two more runs after a Ball State error in the outfield, before an error by redshirt junior Ripken Reese allowed the Cardinals to cut the lead to one.

Kent State residents voiced concern after learning some roads remain open nearby.

“I just feel suspicious going to class without being redirected once,” one student remarked. “A clear route these days just feels a little too easy.”

With traffic cones filling up the streets, a national shortage of the color “orange” may be looming for the rest of the country. Supply chain experts are dragging their feet on confirming the crisis, but many students say the evidence can no longer be ignored.
