The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation has conditionally approved a certificate of need application for a proposed senior living facility called “The Harmony at Kernersville”.

The applicant of this facility, Kernersville IL-AL, LLC and Kernersville Operations, LLC, are proposing a facility within Kernersville that will have 90 licensed adult care home (ACH) beds which will additionally include 36 Special Car Unit (SCU) beds which will be primarily used for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

The proposed operating budget will be $47,200,757, which is 9.2% more than the FY 2022-2023 year . The budget was unanimously vote on at the June 6 Kernersville Board of Alderman meeting.

Kernersville Town Manager, Curtis Swisher explained the increase of the operating budget is due to more capital projects than in years past.

The proposed tax rate for the 2023-2024 budget is 0.559 per $100 valuation.

Expense recommendations for this year include increased salaries and minimum wage, new positions, new and replacement equipment and general services.

Free summer meals are back again for children 18 and under starting June 20 - August 11. School and mobile sits will be open from Monday -Friday. The only weekday that they will not be open is Tuesday, July 4. Breakfast is served at 8:15-8:45 a.m. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Children must be residents of Forsyth County and they must eat all meals at the location.
