Being on top of a mountain takes its toll on equipment. We're working to restore 107.1 and 90.7.

To listeners wondering what happened to 107.1 (North Ketchikan) and 90.7 (Point Higgins), we are working to resolve the problem. Our equipment on High Mountain failed and needs to be replaced. We ordered a new translator and as soon as it arrives, we will send an engineer up to replace it, weather p...

🚒🔥 KETCHIKAN FIRE DEPARTMENT DAILY UPDATE: IT’S STILL NOT COOL TO SET THINGS ON FIRE 🔥🚒

Hey Ketchikan! Just your friendly neighborhood firefighters reminding you that today is NOT National Arson Awareness Appreciation Day (because that’s not a thing… and please don’t make it one).

Yes, it’s Friday. Yes, the sun might peek out. But that doesn’t mean your grill needs to be a flamethrower, your backyard fire pit a volcano, or your attempt at cooking lunch an episode of “Nailed It: Fire Edition.”

🔥 PSA of the Day:
If your microwave starts sounding like a helicopter taking off, maybe just order a pizza.

👨‍🚒 Bonus Tip:
We love visiting you—but not because your toaster tried to declare itself a dragon.

☀️ Stay hydrated and get out and enjoy the sun! Just maybe don’t bring your flamethrower.

Be safe, stay cool(ish), and keep your smoke detectors happy.

In a devastating blow to rural public radio stations like KRBD, Congress approved the President’s rescission request, stripping away $1.1 billion in already approved federal funding that KRBD and hundreds of public radio and TV stations across the country were depending on to continue to serve our community.

Please consider becoming a member or making a special donation to help KRBD weather this storm.

🚢 Cruise Dock Safety Reminder for Our Ketchikan Community 🛑

Hey Ketchikan — just a quick but important reminder! 🧡

We’re incredibly lucky here. Unlike most port towns where docks and terminals are strictly off-limits to the public, Ketchikan allows locals and visitors alike to enjoy our working waterfront. That’s pretty special — but it also comes with shared responsibility to keep everyone safe.

👉 The area marked in red (see photo) is a mooring zone — where large vessels are tied up. During most of the day, it’s open for foot and vehicle traffic.
BUT when a vessel is arriving or departing, this area becomes extremely dangerous, while longshoremen are attempting to moor the ships.

💥 Just two weeks ago, a mooring line snapped during docking — these lines can injure or kill with zero warning. For your safety, when ships are tying up:

✅ Port Security will redirect pedestrians and vehicles away from the area.
✅ You may be asked to go through Tongass Trading, to go around, or wait briefly until it's clear.
✅ Vehicles may be routed onto Berth 2.

⛔️ Please do not ignore instructions or argue and threaten Port staff — this isn’t about rules, it’s about safety.
👷‍♂️ Our longshoremen and Port Security team are doing their jobs to protect you.

We’ve had too many incidents lately with folks (both locals and tour operators) refusing to comply or being verbally abusive to Port staff and longshoremen. Let’s be better than that. 💛

Respect the red zone. Respect the crew. Respect each other.

Enjoy the view — safely.
