Birdsmouth in the wrong spot… suggestions

Heya,

So through a series of unfortunate events all the birds mouths on my rafters were cut in the wrong place. Once the error was noticed the birds mouths were recut lower, on the same rafters.

What this means is that all the rafters have a stupid extra birds mouth in them, which I am sure isn’t GREAT for structural integrity.

Now I am sure at the time I ought to have simply accepted the loss and bought new 2x6s but I had neither the time nor the money. And now there’s a roof anf what not, so there is no replacing them now.

What I am asking is what would be the easiest (and ideally cheapest) fix. I was told to just glue in little triangles but that strikes me as doing pretty much nothing.

I suspect the most reasonable choice is sistering a length of 2x6 tô every one of them. But I was curious how long this sister we piece should really be.

I also thought maybe there is some stupid metal thing I could attach to increase strength, but I have no real idea what that could look like.

Anyhow, any and all ideas welcome (though if the idea is « replace all the rafters », not super helpful).

2x6 framed pocket

Is anyone still framing their own pockets? 2x6 wall with full 2x lumber on sides... finding straight boards the hardest part but this will be strong 💪

When I eventually replace my siding, should I take down the old “sheathing” and replace it with Zip-R?

Also, is it cedar or Douglas fir? 1940’s house in Minnesota. Either way I’m going to try and salvage it and reuse it on future projects.

What do you guys do here?

Making a step for my neighbour and blew out this stainless steel deck screw and now it's stuck in there. It would be fine except that it is not all the way and it looks a bit sh*te. Any suggestions? Also, any advice on avoiding this from happening? It wasn't the first. I'm just starting out in carpentry. Thanks
