Part #1
Not sure if many people my age and younger know who
Captain Ulric Eugene "Bubber" Sweeting is. If you played baseball around my time and earlier, he may have thrown batting practice to you.

Part #2 in Comments.

Captain Ulric Eugene "Bubber" Sweeting (1926–2008) is widely celebrated as "The Last of the Key West Wreckers".
A lifelong "Conch" born and raised in Key West, Sweeting became a prominent figure in the island's maritime lore through his salvage work. Maritime wrecking and salvage—saving crew, ships, and cargo that foundered on the treacherous Florida Reef—was once Key West's primary and most lucrative industry, making it the wealthiest city per capita in the United States during the mid-19th century.
Legacy and Remembrance
The Shipwreck Museum: Capt. Bubber Sweeting's legacy and salvage stories are preserved today at the Key West Shipwreck Museum, where he is featured in a dedicated film and video presentation for visitors.
Life and Roots: Born during the Great Depression to a family of Bahamian and Cuban descent, Sweeting was known for his work ethic from a young age. Beyond his maritime life, he was a well-known local athlete who frequently played baseball and handball at Key West's Bayview Park. He passed away on September 30, 2008, at the age of 81.
