If you're looking for something to do this first weekend of October, we've got fall festivals, pumpkins, witches on the Snake River and plenty happening around the Magic Valley.

The big one in Twin Falls is Oktoberfest, taking over Downtown Twin Falls Friday and Saturday. Expect live music, food vendors, a b**r garden and family activities, with Main Street closed to traffic for the celebration. Friday festivities get underway in the afternoon, with another full day Saturday.

And if you're ready to go full fall, the pumpkin patches and mazes are open. Burley Straw Maze & Pumpkin Patch is open Friday and Saturday, and Tubbs Berry Farm and the Magic Valley Corn Maze and Haunted Forest in Hansen are also into their fall seasons.

But I think my favorite event this weekend might be in Burley.

Saturday morning is the Witches Paddle on the Snake River. People are encouraged to dress as witches, grab a kayak or paddleboard and meet at Lex Kunau Park at 10 a.m. They'll paddle about 2½ miles downriver, finishing with lunch at the Riverside Resort area. And yes, I desperately hope somebody actually attaches a broom to their kayak. 😂

There are also smaller activities happening Friday around the valley, including First Friday in Downtown Twin Falls and family events at libraries in Kimberly, Filer, Rupert and Gooding.

So whether you're ready for Oktoberfest, pumpkin season or a bunch of witches floating down the Snake River, there's plenty to get you out of the house.

I hate computer updates... I mean I REALLY HATE THEM!! Because Windows 10 on my home work computer decided it was necessary to update and do a restart, I was completely dead in the water yesterday because I couldn't get my computer to connect to the internet. At. ALL.

I rolled back the updates, all but one. I ran every stinking test and checked every little setting that I could. You know what it was?? Windows decided that my WIFI adapter didn't need the wi-fi portion of the dongle and just decided all it needed was bluetooth. So I had to find it, uninstall and reinstall. Thanks Microsoft.

IT TOOK ME TWO DAYS TO FIGURE IT OUT!!

*sigh.... but I fixed it and I'm back on the air with you today, and I didn't need to shoot my computer. Which I HAVE done before! 🤣🤣

Fall is officially taking over Mini-Cassia this weekend, because the 10th Annual Riverton Pumpkin & Safety Festival is happening Saturday at Riverside Park in Heyburn. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3.

And this isn't just another excuse to put pumpkin spice on everything.

The festival brings families together with pumpkins, live music, vendors and emergency vehicles, while also giving kids a chance to meet local first responders and learn some basic safety lessons in a setting that's actually fun.

It's organized by H.O.P.E., a local nonprofit focused on promoting safety and community awareness, and the festival has now grown into an annual fall tradition in Heyburn.

What I like about this one is that it's exactly the kind of community event we do really well around here.

Get the kids outside. Let them check out the emergency vehicles. Grab a pumpkin. Listen to some music. Meet some neighbors.

And maybe sneak in a couple of safety lessons while the kids are distracted by all the fun stuff.

That's a pretty good Saturday.

About time!!!!!

After several years of requests, a meeting held with the Idaho Transportation Department, along with data the ITD collected, the speed limit in front of Minico High School is going to be adjusted to 35 mph. In the near future signs, with flashing lights( indicating a school zone), will be posted to remind drivers to slow down when school is in session. We are very grateful for this change and the priority that has been placed on driving safety. Watch for more information coming soon from the school and the sheriffs office. WE ARE MINICO
