A 7-year prison term has been ordered for the Marana resident held responsible for the wreck of a Kingman Unified School District (KUSD) that hurt 41 people more than 14 months ago. Nicolas Luis Rodriguez, 32, was sentenced June 15 by Pima County Superior Court Judge Casey McGinley.

Rodriguez must also pay nearly $180,000 restitution to KUSD and crash victims.

Feral Cat Warriors held its annual animal rescue fundraising gala, “Pirate’s Pawradise,” at Beale Celebrations Saturday night, hosting a full house with 118 registered people for a night of food and fun. Former Hollywood special effects artist and prop maker Rick Hilgner (whose work includes the movies “Starship Troopers” and “The Fifth Element”) provided pirate-themed props and backgrounds for the event.

Invoking claims of protecting women's rights, state lawmakers on Thursday gave final approval to legislation to make Sharia Law illegal in Arizona. The 23-23 party line vote by the House came as Rep. John Gillette warned his female colleagues of what could await Arizonans without such a protection.
