Angie Hyche, Author and Speaker

Angie Hyche, Author and Speaker As a certified professional organizer, Angie Hyche will help you find peace & order. Angie and her husband Eric live in a small downtown loft.

Angie Hyche is a certified professional organizer (CPO®), author, speaker, and the owner of Shipshape Solutions in Kingsport, Tennessee. She is passionate about helping people declutter and simplify their lives so they can focus on what's most important and spend time doing what they love. After working with hundreds of busy families, seniors, professionals, and nonprofits in upper East Tennessee

and Southwest Virginia from 2016-2022, Angie decided to switch her focus to writing, speaking, and podcasting. Her years of experience working with clients give her unique insights into both the challenges of clutter and disorganization and the freedom and peace that order can bring. In 2019, they were thrilled to shed approximately 75% of their belongings in order to simplify their own lives. Her first book, Unholy Mess: What the Bible Says about Clutter, was published on Amazon in December of 2020. In the book, she shares how her experiences working with clients and her own life experiences helped her see the far-reaching consequences of clutter. She learned that clutter goes much deeper and broader than just physical belongings. Angie openly shares her personal journey of clearing her schedule clutter (a packed calendar and to-do list) and attention clutter (smartphone addiction and a lack of focus). Readers will find both biblical inspiration and practical tools. Her second book with co-author Liana George, Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most, is publishing on June 11, 2024 by Scrivenings Press. Angie and Liana also have a podcast with the same title on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Both the book and podcast focus on the connection between faith and organizing, showing why from a biblical standpoint we need to leave the chaos and clutter in our lives behind. Angie is a frequently sought-after presenter for community groups, church groups, her local chamber, and podcasts. Audiences leave inspired and equipped to solve their organizing challenges. Angie has extensive education and training in the field of organizing and continues to stay updated on the latest industry trends. She is an active member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) and Faithful Organizers (a nationwide group of Christian professional organizers). In her free time, you’ll find her on a hiking or bicycle trail with her husband, visiting her two adult daughters Emma and Lydia, reading, or performing in community theatre.

Just for fun, here are 15 things you may not know about me (with a few pictures). I'd love to know some of yours!

1. I’ve been into sports as long as I can remember. My parents say this baby picture is proof that I was “born with a ball in my hands.”
2. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school and volleyball at Tennessee Tech University.
3. In junior high school, I was obsessed with Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey. I met him while attending an Atlanta Braves game.
4. Before becoming a professional organizer, I worked in medicine as a pediatric PA (physician assistant).
5. I went to graduate school at Emory University in Atlanta, and Eric and I lived there for the first 11 years of my marriage. Both of our daughters were born in Atlanta.
6. I’ve been acting in community theatre since 2001 and have been in 25 plays. The most recent play I acted in was The Sound of Music with Theatre Bristol. I loved sharing the stage with my husband Eric.
7. Eric and I are on a quest to visit all 63 national parks. One of the pictures shows Eric and I hiking in North Cascades National Park. We’re currently at #61 and will finish in July. We’re writing a book about it.
8. I’ve always loved playing games. Eric and I met playing Trivial Pursuit our freshman year at Tennessee Tech. We love to visit board game cafes.
9. I am really bad at losing things and leaving things behind. And I’m an organizer. Ironic, I know.
10. I love hot yoga, interval training, hiking, biking, and pickleball.
11. I’m currently serving on the Kingsport Public Library Commission.
12. I was very shy during childhood and my teenage years. Not sure when or why that changed, but I’m definitely not shy now.
13. I’m a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas. I might be getting slightly better with this lately, but it’s not “the most wonderful time of the year” for me.
14. I love all frozen desserts, but I especially love gelato and ice cream.
15. I enjoy making crafts, but I’m very intentional about not creating crafts without a good place to use them or give them away. I don’t want my crafts to become clutter.

I was honored to recently attend the awards ceremony at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference. The Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most podcast was chosen as a Selah Awards finalist for Best Solo and Co-Hosted Podcasts. While our podcast wasn't chosen in the top 3, Liana and I are still thrilled to have been named a finalist. And I especially enjoyed seeing some of my author friends at the event.

I had so much fun teaching my 2 hour hands-on Printed Photo Organizing workshop at the Johnson City Public Library last Saturday. In this photo, participants were working on sorting the box of photos they brought with them. By the time they left, they had a head start on the work, resources, and a plan.

I would love to teach this workshop again for a group in your area. Email me for details ([email protected])

As I am working to decrease my screen time, this book has been profoundly influential. I'll be sharing more about my own conclusions and the steps I'm taking. If you have the same intention to reduce screen time, I highly recommend that you read this book. Here's an excerpt from the book description:

Change your relationship with technology. Change your life.

Share. Post. Reply…Most of us have gotten so used to notifications and alerts, pings and rings, that even if we don't want to be on our phones so much, we don't know what to do about it. The constant flow of information affects our brains, relationships, and emotional well-being. We feel stuck, overwhelmed, overstimulated, and we want a way out.

Like many of us, podcaster and author Carlos Whittaker had lived for years in an always-on, always-connected world—and he felt more disconnected than ever from God, his community, and even himself. When Carlos Whittaker realized how many hours he was on his phone, he took extreme measures to see how unplugging could change his body and soul.

In Reconnected, Carlos shares the challenges, surprises, and profound insights of his self-imposed exile from technology, spending nearly two months screen-free at a monastery, an Amish farm, and at home.

My husband Eric and I are on a quest to visit all 63 national parks. We're so close to finishing! We recently visited the 2 parks in Hawaii (Haleakala and Hawaii Volcanoes) and the one in American Samoa. Only two more to complete them!

This one blows me away. It's so powerful and convicting. I've got lots more work to do to control my attention.

Here's the entire quote: “The more control you have over your attention, the more control you have over your future. And it starts with having enough courage to protect your time.

It’s so easy to say yes. We want to be agreeable, helpful, liked. That’s how time disappears and attention becomes fragmented: not in big chunks, but in a thousand small concessions.

What you trade your attention for is what your life becomes.”

I'm on a mission to declutter my digital life. In a big way. I'm starting with a short intro article for an upcoming blog series. I'll be sharing the real, unfiltered truth about how even a 'tidy' digital life can benefit from a good decluttering. I’ll share practical tips that can make a real difference. I want to give you hope, no matter your starting point and even if you feel completely out of control. And I want to inspire you to take a closer look at your own digital habits, even if you think you’ve already got it under control.

You can find the intro article on my website (angiehyche.com).
