Angie Hyche, Author and Speaker

Angie Hyche, Author and Speaker Angie is an author, speaker, and retired organizer. She loves helping people simplify their lives. Angie and her husband Eric live in a small downtown loft.

Angie Hyche is a certified professional organizer (CPO®), author, speaker, and the owner of Shipshape Solutions in Kingsport, Tennessee. She is passionate about helping people declutter and simplify their lives so they can focus on what's most important and spend time doing what they love. After working with hundreds of busy families, seniors, professionals, and nonprofits in upper East Tennessee

and Southwest Virginia from 2016-2022, Angie decided to switch her focus to writing, speaking, and podcasting. Her years of experience working with clients give her unique insights into both the challenges of clutter and disorganization and the freedom and peace that order can bring. In 2019, they were thrilled to shed approximately 75% of their belongings in order to simplify their own lives. Her first book, Unholy Mess: What the Bible Says about Clutter, was published on Amazon in December of 2020. In the book, she shares how her experiences working with clients and her own life experiences helped her see the far-reaching consequences of clutter. She learned that clutter goes much deeper and broader than just physical belongings. Angie openly shares her personal journey of clearing her schedule clutter (a packed calendar and to-do list) and attention clutter (smartphone addiction and a lack of focus). Readers will find both biblical inspiration and practical tools. Her second book with co-author Liana George, Uncluttered: Shaping Your Heart & Home for What Matters Most, is publishing on June 11, 2024 by Scrivenings Press. Angie and Liana also have a podcast with the same title on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Both the book and podcast focus on the connection between faith and organizing, showing why from a biblical standpoint we need to leave the chaos and clutter in our lives behind. Angie is a frequently sought-after presenter for community groups, church groups, her local chamber, and podcasts. Audiences leave inspired and equipped to solve their organizing challenges. Angie has extensive education and training in the field of organizing and continues to stay updated on the latest industry trends. She is an active member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) and Faithful Organizers (a nationwide group of Christian professional organizers). In her free time, you’ll find her on a hiking or bicycle trail with her husband, visiting her two adult daughters Emma and Lydia, reading, or performing in community theatre.

I recently had the immense pleasure of gathering with fellow writers and friends at a beautiful retreat center in Lebanon, Virginia. We focused on free time to work on our writing projects. I also gave a 2 hour presentation called "Write Now, Play Later: Time Management for Authors." Here are a few pictures of the attendees and the setting. Talk about amazing views!

I am loving this one so far! Beautiful writing and photography and a powerful story of restoration in a home and in a life.

Here's the book description: Every one of us has broken places inside. Places in our souls where the dust gathers or the wind whistles through. Every one of us needs restoration. Photographer and portrait artist Meshali Mitchell is no different. Though, in her case, she also had a farmhouse to restore to its former glory.

In this beautiful, full-color book, Meshali shares the inspiring story of how the Lord drew her out from behind the camera to embark on an unlikely home renovation in the midst of her own difficult journey to healing. As she handed God the keys to every room in her heart, Meshali learned lessons of patience, perseverance, and self-forgiveness that paralleled the physical restoration of the building around her. With lyrical prose steeped in Scripture and practical tools, she shows you how to apply those same discoveries to your own life as you ask God to heal, restore, and empower you to live abundantly.

As one who suffers from anxiety on a frequent basis, I have seen this play out in my life over and over again. The most common issue that produces anxiety in me is feeling overwhelmed about either multiple tasks on my plate or a particularly intimidating project. The anxiety often leads to the exact opposite of action.

Getting stuck in the procrastination stage because we "have so much to do that we don't know where to start" is incredibly common. The simplest solution is to just get started. One tiny step. And then another. And another. Progress, even if it's small, can break the chains of procrastination.

Say hello to my phone box!

I've been on a mission in the last few years to decrease my dependence on my phone. This change has come in stages. While I've made some progress in the past, I was ready to go to the next level.

Based on ideas from my reading of Carlos Whittaker's book Reconnected: How 7 Screen-Free Weeks with Monks and Amish Farmers Helped Me Recover the Lost Art of Being Human as well as ideas from various podcasts, conversations with Eric, and prayer, I decided to try putting my phone in a box. Literally. So for the past month or so, I've been keeping my phone in this box at home and only taking it out when I intentionally decide to use it.

I recorded my phone statistics (amount of time on my phone, number of touches, etc.) before I began, and I'm comparing it with statistics since I began. It's too early to draw grand conclusions yet, but so far I believe it's making a difference. I'll share more details when I've had additional time to evaluate.

I turned 60 this year, and I've become much more introspective and more conscious of how I spend my time. This jar of beans has been a great tool to help me realize how precious my time is and how I need to prioritize what really matters.

The jar contains one bean for every week I have remaining on earth, assuming that I live until the average age of death of a woman in the US. Each Wednesday, I remove a bean, and this action reminds me that my time is limited. Sometimes I also read one or more of the Bible verses listed on the jar.

Ultimately, we can choose the hard of organizing or the hard of disorganization’s consequences. It’s our choice. After eight years of helping people organize, I can tell you with surety that time spent organizing is worth it. The hard of organizing causes less suffering than the hard of chaos.

I always enjoy writing days, but now they look a little different for a very exciting reason! Now that my husband Eric and I have officially visited all 63 U.S. national parks, we're writing a book about our national park adventures! The main focus of the book will be how couples can grow closer to each other and to God while visiting the parks. I'll be sharing more details as we write. Here are a few photos from a writing day at our local bagel shop in Kingsport, Bagel Exchange.
