Soybean cyst nematode (SCN) is the leading soybean pathogen in the United States, often remaining undetected until it has already caused significant yield losses.

Farmers in Missouri can submit up to four soil samples at no cost, as SCN frequently inflicts damage below the soil surface without any visible signs above ground.

Experts advise testing your fields this fall, particularly those that have never been tested or have not undergone testing in the past five years. Utilizing proper soil sampling methods is essential for detecting and managing this pest effectively.

Neurodivergent Missourians — those with autism, ADHD and other cognitive differences — face higher barriers to employment, even in a tight labor market. In 2022, only 16% of autistic adults were employed full time.

Rates of cognitive disability, often used as a measure of neurodivergence, were also higher in nonmetro counties (18.8%) compared to metro areas (15.9%).

Yet, neurodivergent adults bring valuable strengths — like hyperfocus and creative problem-solving — that can enrich any workplace when employers use supportive hiring and management practices.

Engaged neighbors enhance security, support and well-being, fostering community cohesion and trust for a better neighborhood experience.

In 2025, over 250 residents of Missouri have embraced the Engaged Neighbor Pledge, demonstrating what this commitment looks like in their daily lives.
Here are a few ways to get started:

▪️Start with simple acts of connection
A wave, a smile, or a short chat can open the door to lasting connections.

▪️Heal divisions and build unity
Get to know your neighbor's story and focus on what is strong, not what is wrong.

▪️Create space for belonging
Hang out in your front yard or host a block party.

▪️Look out for those in need
Check in on elderly neighbors, lend a hand or simply listen.

Ready to make a difference in your neighborhood? Take the pledge and learn how to participate in Missouri Good Neighbor Week from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4.
