It is donation drive time as Kingwood Park journalism works to raise money to fund their print and online new sites, as well as upgrades and repairs for camera equipment. Any amount helps as the students compete in state and national competitions, starting in just two weeks in San Antonio.

As the adviser of the Kingwood Park Journalism program, I want to thank you for supporting the hardworking students in the journalism program. New cafeteria options have earned praise from students and changed the cafeteria, where only certain lines were constant draws last year.

The lunchroom used to be filled with students eating nachos, salads, sandwiches and pizzas. Unbalanced lines would leave half the cafeteria deserted and the other half with hordes of students. Congratulations to Sydney Ortiz, Ella Hickman, Tricia Darcy and Shawn Chaney for being finalists in a total of 11 categories. All have finished in the top 10 in the nation in categories, which range from writing, photography, design and multimedia. They will find exactly which place they finish in at the national convention in Orlando in November.

Through education, training and recognition programs for members, National Scholastic Press Association promotes the standards and ethics of good journalism as accepted and practiced by print, broadcast and electronic media in the United States.
