North American QSO Party – SSB
The August North American QSO Party (NAQP) – SSB, begins at 1800 UTC on Saturday, August 16, and concludes at 0559 UTC on Sunday, August 17. The NAQP's 12-hour format allows participants to enjoy contesting, while still having time for other weekend activities. Power output is limited to 100 W, so this is a great contest for beginners with low-power stations to get their feet wet! Complete rules are available at

North American QSO Party The North American QSO Parties are favorites of beginners and seasoned operators alike. The NAQPs are low-power only (no amplifiers allowed) which makes for a lot more breathing room on the bands. Small stations can generate very effective “runs” in the NAQP  contests. ...

Last month, the IARU HF World Championship was a rough slog. Raw scores are out and are markedly down across the board. I toughed it out as best I could and finished in the top 20 for W/VE (US & Canada). I also finished first place for US Call Area 5, West Gulf Division and South Texas Section. Next major WW phone contest is not until October 25-26, the CQ Worldwide DX Contest, SSB.

Wow. Incredible to evacuate personnel from McMurdo in the dead of winter like this. I've worked the ARS at McMurdo on HF phone in the past.

The rescue crew landed in an ice-covered area with no runway.
