Two local law enforcement units are joining forces to target violent crime and drug activity across Kinston and Lenoir County.

The Kinston Police Department’s Violent Crime Action Team and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit have officially merged, creating a combined task force aimed at sharing intelligence, streamlining investigations and responding more quickly to emerging threats.

Anita Waters Deaver, 80, peacefully completed her earthly time and entered her eternal home on Sunday, September 20, 2026. A graveside service to remember Anita’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, with Pastor Steve Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
