This year’s tree is a 75-foot tall Norway spruce from East Greenbush, NY. It will be erected at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and adorned with more than 50 000 LED lights and crowned by a massive Swarovski star. The tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2025 as part of the live broadcast Christmas in Rockefeller Center. After the display ends (mid-January), the tree’s lumber will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to help build homes.

New York State Police have arrested 20-year-old Jayden M. Lyndaker of Watertown following a joint investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Lyndaker faces several felony charges, including:
• Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance
• Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child
• Three Counts of Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child

Troopers say the arrest followed a search warrant related to online child exploitation material. Lyndaker was arraigned and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail on bail. He’s due back in court October 28th.

The investigation is continuing.

The Utica Police Department is investigating two shots-fired incidents reported over the weekend — both detected by the city’s ShotSpotter system.

The first occurred Saturday night, October 25th, around 10:25 p.m. on the 900 block of Blandina Street, where officers found a home and vehicle hit by gunfire. Twenty-two shell casings were recovered at the scene.

The second happened Sunday night, October 26th, on the 1100 block of Dudley Avenue. Officers recovered two shell casings and found a loaded 9 mm handgun in a nearby basement — the rounds matching those found outside.

Both cases are under investigation by the Utica Police GIVE Unit. Anyone with information can contact police at 315-223-3510 or submit an anonymous tip through Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers at www.mohawkvalleycrimestoppers.com

Utica Police have filed felony charges in a downtown vandalism case.

Officers say a vehicle parked behind 287 Genesee Street was found on August 25th covered in condiments — ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and eggs — and scratched with a sharp object. Damage was estimated at more than $7,000.

Following a review of surveillance video, investigators charged 21-year-old Chloe Sue Stacy of Whitesboro with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony. Police have not yet disclosed a motive.

A chemistry teacher at Mohawk Valley Community College accidentally mixed hydrogen peroxide with acetone Tuesday, prompting an emergency response on the Utica campus.
State fire investigators and Utica Fire hazmat crews were called to the Science and Technology Building on Sherman Drive.
MVCC officials say the mixture had the potential to become unstable, but responders quickly neutralized the chemicals.
No injuries were reported, and the building will reopen dor classes today.

The Susquehanna SPCA rescued more than 40 animals—including horses, cats, and pigs—from a farm on Alvord Road in Stittville Tuesday morning.
Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies say the rescue is part of a criminal investigation. A search warrant was executed at the property, where a collapsed barn roof and multiple animal crates were visible.
No charges have been filed at this time.
The SQSPCA says they’re caring for the rescued animals and ask the public to help free up shelter space. Dog adoption fees will be waived Wednesday during Subaru’s Make a Dog’s Day event.

SUV Overturns in New Hartford Crash

A two-vehicle collision at Higby Road and Mohawk Street sent one SUV rolling Monday afternoon.
Police say Douglas Yasenovsky of New Hartford was following too closely when his pickup hit a Subaru driven by Stephanie Roberts of Clayville. The SUV overturned onto a lawn, but thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.
Yasenovsky was ticketed for following too closely and unlicensed operation.

A Town of New Hartford employee is accused of padding his time cards and stealing thousands from taxpayers.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Edgar Lopez-Duran of Utica, a town carpenter, claimed hours he didn’t work between June and September—pocketing more than $3,000 in unearned pay. He’s charged with grand larceny, corrupting the government, and filing false documents, all felonies. Lopez-Duran was arraigned and released pending a future court date.

A Rome man is facing felony charges after deputies say a dangerous piece of metal was found hidden inside a cell at the Oneida County Jail.
Sheriff Robert Maciol says 44-year-old Frank J. Phelps was arrested Monday after investigators tied him to a pointed, triangular piece of metal discovered during a cell search earlier this month. Phelps is charged with Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, a Class D felony.

Tully’s Good Times is coming to New Hartford! 🍗🍻
The town’s Planning Board has approved site plans for a new Tully’s at the former Uno Pizzeria and Grill on Clinton Street. Most of the changes will happen inside — a bigger kitchen, new bar area, and updated seating — but expect fresh signage and a few exterior touch-ups too.
Construction could start within 60 to 90 days, with an opening likely in about eight months

An Oneida County jury has found former correction officer David J. Kingsley II guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the December fatal beating of inmate Robert L. Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility. Two co-defendants — Mathew J. Galliher and Nicholas J. Kieffer — were acquitted. Kingsley now faces 25 years to life behind bars.
