Took some time off work to do some Christmas shopping this afternoon and completely forgot to post about tonight's show. Tonight on Free Form Friday it's Prog Night, but with a twist... in keeping with the theme of late, it'll be prog rock about space. Or at least with a spacey title. So tune in and join me for a little space prog tonight at 9:00 on Lake Effect Radio.

In keeping with last night’s full moon, as well as several unique lunar events of late (from which I’ve added a few pics), tonight on Free Form Friday, it’s my second space-themed show, this time highlighting songs of the moon.

The moon has been the source of inspiration for many a song; tonight, we’ll hear just a few of them. Not space music, but moon music - two hours of songs about or inspired by our lunar friend.

Join me tonight at 9:00 on Lake Effect Radio.

Tonight’s listen…

I don’t have much by Booker T. & the M.G.’s in my collection, but I have this one, so I had to pull it out tonight in honor of the late and legendary Steve Cropper, longtime guitarist for the M.G.’s and the man behind the guitar work on so many classics from the heyday of Stax Records back in the day.

While most of the album may not rise to the level of renowned cuts like “Green Onions” or “Time Is Tight” (both by Booker T. & the M.G.’s), or epic tunes like Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour,” Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man,” or his late, good friend Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay” - all of which he cowrote and played guitar on - there’s some great stuff here.

Highlights include “Mo’ Greens” and the Grammy-winning “Cruisin’.” A fine listen indeed.

RIP Mr. Cropper

Tonight on Free Form Friday, it's Free Form Friday. No special theme tonight, just my once-monthly genre-spanning free form show. I have quite a mix of music in mind for this evening, but I'm still putting things together, so requests are welcome - preferably of the not-so-run-of-the-mill variety, but whatever you might have in mind works - if I've got it, I'll play it!

It's sure to be a wide-ranging set, so join me tonight at 9:00 for Free Form Friday on Lake Effect Radio.

There have been several astronomical events lately, from super moons to northern lights, so it got me thinking about space-themed music. Not space music per se, but songs *about* space. So tonight on Free Form Friday, it’s the first of two shows of such songs: Space Is the Place - two hours of music inspired by stars, planets and other space-related phenomena, with a moon-themed show planned for a future date.

Some music *will* be space music, but we’ll cover a range of genres for the evening’s space travels, so join me tonight at 9:00 on Lake Effect Radio.

Tonight on Lake Effect Radio, we pay tribute to two legends of the rock world we recently lost just days apart - John Lodge and Ace Frehley.

Both Rock Hall inductees, they achieved success making music of very different styles - one with progressive rock, art rock and pop rock band The Moody Blues, the other with hard rock, heavy metal and glam rockers Kiss.

There wasn’t much in common between these two musicians, but they both made great music, and tonight we’ll dedicate a set of music to each on this conrast in styles. Join me for this review of two rock greats of very different flavors, tonight at 9:00 on Free Form Friday.
